Combining flights
 

Hi, is it possible to combine different flights from different airlines but from the same alliance when checking in, at least as far as luggage is concerned?
E.g., I'm flying from Berlin to Rome via Zurich using Swiss, arriving at 11am (ticket bough through Swiss web site). At 12.10pm, same day, I'm flying with Aegean to Athens (ticket bought through the Aegean web site). Is it possible to send the luggage directly from Berlin to Athens and avoid the process of picking it up and and checking it in again at Rome?

It's called interlining baggage and it's possible. It depends on the airlines, but according to this page

Aegean has an interline agreement with Swiss

You will need to let them know when checking in and have the ticket for the second flight (or confirmation or whatever) and they will tag your bags through.

It's possible to check your luggage through to your final destination even if the two airlines are not a part of the same alliance. As long as they have interline baggage agreement, you can always check your luggage though.

Had no idea it was something standard. Which also explains the question almost always at checkin "Is the bag going to ..." when in the ticket there is not an additional leg. Thank you both!

Also recommend you look at some other threads where FTers ask an OP many, many times: are both flights going in the same direction "on the same ticket"? In other words, are the two different airline flights booked on the same ticket number, or booking reference number? If so, your checked bags will interline from one flight to another.
