I'm flying to FRA next Monday/Tuesday and arriving at 5:50am. I will be going straight to my hotel to drop my luggage, but there's no way they'll have a room for me. I'm flying LH biz, and I just saw that they have an arrival lounge with a shower - you bet I'm going to take a shower.

Because there is no guarantee that the hotel will be able to get you in to your room and a shower. Or that you have a hotel room in which you are staying (day trip). Or that you have time to get to the hotel and deal with that versus the 30 minutes to clean up and get out to the office from the airport.
I love arrivals lounge service. Cheers. |
I nearly always use the AA arrivals lounge at LHR. Great if I arrive at 6am gives me a chance to have a good shower to wake up properly and something to eat before I drive the 200 miles home.

First I've heard of this product.. makes alot of sense.^

As others have mentioned the shower is great. After a long flight, particularly an overnight one, and after going through immigration/customs, I am dying for a shower. I don't want to wait to get to my hotel to have it, I just want a shower and a shave NOW. Speaking of hotels, sometimes it's a place to kill time while waiting to check into yours. And the internet access and snacks/drinks are certainly nice too.

Showering at airport clubs can be a miracle after a long and/or overnight flight. I can't imagine transiting Narita without a shower (my favorite is at the AC) or doing a red-eye to New York without visiting the PC on arrival. My least positive airport shower experience was at the KLM lounge in AMS; my favorite is at the DFW AC that has a gym and spa shower.

I also fully support the arrivals lounge concept. Both BA and BD permit access in LHR for J passengers arriving from Moscow on their early morning flights (otherwise short haul), which means one can wake up in Moscow, fly to London dressed casually and still get to the office in London more or less at the start of the normal workday in appropriate office attire and haing just showered and completed one's morning ablutions. I have even used the lounge when returning home to London from holiday, largely because I likely have no food at home for breakfast after a holiday and enjoy the feeling of extending holiday and relaxing with a morning paper and coffee for another hour or so. The lounge is also useful if one needs to go directly to work after arriving from the US, particularly after a transatlantic flight in Y (my office has a shower, but it feels better to arrive slightly later but refreshed and ready to start, instead of arriving tired and slightly disheveled and without even a coffee).

We were there at about 9.30am on a Sunday, and the sofas seemed to be littered with sleeping passengers - which seems to back up the theory of it being somewhere comfortable to wait until hotels are likely to have rooms available. |

Unless you are connecting, who's going to hang around the airport to use the arrivals lounge. If I have meetings the same day and enough time to use the arrivals lounge, I'd just as soon check into my hotel early and use what are usually much nicer shower facilities than they have at the arrivals lounge. If I was UA, I'd lose the Arrivals Lounges and put in a few more IFLs with shower facilities that can be used by both arriving and departing passengers.
Does anyone think UA should maintain separate Arrivals Lounges outside of customs and security? Many hotels are either far away or doesn't permit early checkin (very few allow to checkin at 9 or 10 in the morning, or they are going to charge an extra day especially 4 or 5 stars hotels.) |

What if you are connecting from a trans-pac? I love taking a shower prior to the SFO-SEA leg of my ICN-SFO-SEA flights.

I love having the arrivals lounge. Here are my two experiences:
1) Flew with thirty people to London, but I took UA C, while they flew DL Y. With two hours to kill before they landed, I went to the arrivals lounge where I got to take a nice shower, have some breakfast, check my email, and just have a bit of time to relax. When I met up with they group, they looked a bit bad, while I was refreshed and ready to go ^ 2) I went to Frankfurt in early March. Met up with another FTer around 12pm, but I landed in FRA at 5:35am .. Visited the LH Welcome Lounge where I took a shower, caught up on the 85 FT emails I had received, and again, spent some time relaxing. Without the lounge, I would not have been in a such a good mood. I was able to check into the hotel at 10am, but I doubt they would have let me check-in at 6:30am! I fully support arrivals lounge, especially after long TATL or TPAC segments. |
Why not have an arrivals lounge with showers for Y passengers, only for a fee? KIX has fee-based showers, which is a great idea for us peasants.

Often like flights coming into South America you arrive early in the morning. Likely your hotel room will not be ready until after 12 noon (unless you paid for a prior night). And after a night on a plane I want and need a shower.
Also, you might be continuing on for awhile by ground transportation. At least with AA, unfortunately, most International lounges are airside. |
One word.....showers
A few more words...... after taking an 11-16 hour flight, it's a welcome change to be able to take that shower I just mentioned (plus having a shave and being able to put on clean clothes in comfort vs in a terminal restroom or the head on the plane  is a big plus as well) |
The RC Club in HKG has nice shower facilities which I used. I was travelling in C but I'm wondering if someone traveling in Y could use it or not? This is after all the RC Club, although they asked me for my boarding pass before leading me to the shower.
The Arrivals Lounge at SFO is nice, as I was able to get a refreshing shower. Even though flying in C from HKG to SFO is not tiring, a nice hot shower after such a long flight is so nice! |
