Dear CNN...

What's up with this photo??

http://www.cnn.com/2011/TRAVEL/01/07/frequent.flier.programs/index.html

I may drive 4 hours to go STL-ATL-DTW-MSP-BIS-SLC-LAX-SYD for double miles, but I wear sweatpants instead of a suit in BE, I leave my sunglasses at home, and I don't twirl a pin while I drink my dirty martini. :)

Stock photo fail.

MR_MAMA Jan 12, 2011 8:22 am

and I would never be caught dead with that phone!! :)

Gargoyle Jan 12, 2011 8:24 am

Not only that, but the article makes this bizarre statement:

Start somewhere like FlyerTalk -- a wonderful reservoir of knowledge on making the most of miles. Newbies are welcome.
:D

(btw, this belongs in Miles Buzz, nothing DL specific about it).

Or those glasses. Very 90's Bono-ish.

Uh, uh, it's a CNN article and both CNN and DL are based in Atlanta, Georgia? Does that make the connection strong enough?

What about my DL mileage run reference? AKA the greatest promotion of 2010, double MQM's out of STL! Man, that was a heck of a day. 22 minute layover in Bismarck on the last flight out after a delay in MSP. I thought I was done for. DL actually sent my back straight from STL to SLC because they knew it wouldn't be able to keep up with my segments. I had to re-check in SLC because they couldn't check it more than a certain amount of segments. :)

I bet you had to run all the way across the Bismarck airport. Oh, wait, you could jump from one side of it to the other :-) I'm guessing the GA was astounded to see they had someone CONNECTING there. Probably didn't know what to do with that part of the computer screen.

That alone would make it worth doing that mileage run.

Getting my bag from the back room with this lady in SLC was definitely the highlight of the run :)

It does seem kind of risky to check a bag on that crazy of a routing, I'll give her that much. However, the ingenuity of the booking deserves a prize. I guess I'd probably plead with the TA to check the bag on a more direct routing or else just FedEx the stuff in advance. (Bringing it home on the plane would be fine.)

His tie sucks too!

Makes you wonder how current the photo is --- I've seen shots of MSP on the air supposedly taken during 'today's storm' only all the planes are red tails.

Does DL have martini glasses on board, or did he bring his own ?

That's my question - I must not fly the right carriers (or in the right class on the right carriers) for I have never seen a proper martini glass on board.

And his own white leather seats.

Couldn't squeeze in JFK? Although BIS is impressive.

BIS has to be one of the smaller airports where you can actually connect through on DL (not returning to the airport you came from). Doing a turnaround at JMS would be impressive, but would require flying on the Saab and stopping in DVL on the way back to MSP.

Add to this list DTW-ESC-IMT-MSP on the Saab

Ooh. That would be "fun", and you'd be making progress from one location to another at least! Don't know that I'd want to spend 4:41 in a Saab for a measly 1500 MQM, however.

But if it's a miserable trip, when it's over you can tell Saab Stories.

-1. I happen to like the tie.

You guys got me beat on the connection city. I thought

BUF-JFK-CMH-DTW-MSP-LAX was good - not too many connect in CMH .... my bag made it the entire way (though my business partner's bag who was flying with me didn't - he showed up to a meeting with Toyota, of all companies, in a ripped AC/DC t-shirt.)

Gargoyle Jan 12, 2011 6:31 pm

I had a nice one last year.
ORD-MEM-BNA-MSP-CDG-PSA, return PSA-CDG-SLC-BNA-ATL-ORD
50k rdm's 25k mqm's I used a voucher so out-of-pocket it cost $650.00.
Not quite a mileage run, since it was a business trip.

That was probably a very effective move; they probably thought AC/DC was a reference to their advanced hybrid technology.

Ugh, one of my pet peeves! Folks who wear sweat pants (esp. in BE) belong in Cargo. You are out in PUBLIC, not lounging around at home. This one is second only to those folks who put their feet up on the bulkhead wall. Who raised you people?!?! LOL
