Flight from Boston area to Eastern Pa

I checked the ITA software site and it seems there are no direct flights from Boston/Manchester/Providence to Allentown/Wilkes-Barre/Harrisburg

Im trying to get home for the holidays and i'm shocked there are not even any puddle jumpers to take home?

thoughts? ideas?

at this point in time it looks like i must fly into EWR or Philly

thanks

US Airways has 2x flights a day Mon-Fri on Dash 8-100s on MDT-BOS.

Other than that, US Airways/Southwest both fly PHL-BOS/PVD/MHT.

i thought so too?

Well I looked and couldnt find a flight, so on the USAirways.com website it shows on the route map MDT to Boston but can't book any flights.

Called reservations and got routed to an offshore agent (which I really hate) he couldnt book me anything either, Im thinking its seasonal?? or the route is no longer available.

thoughts?

It can be done, but you'd be looking at about $600 r/t. Of course, if you wanted to do greyhound you could do it for $182 r/t.

billyidle Dec 13, 2010 10:03 pm

i can do it?

Please let me know where you found direct flights??

mersk862 Dec 13, 2010 10:46 pm

Looks like they stop the flights over the holiday - looks to be a route that's focused on the business traveler (hence the Mo-Fri flights only) so they stop it when there isn't much going on for business travel during the Christmas/New Year's week.

Best bet is going to be to Philadelphia if you want to fly...

Saw this post and talked to my brother who lives in Boston - he lives near Quincy Market and would be happy to give you a lift back to the W-B/Scranton area. He is leaving either the night of 12/22 or during the day on 12/23.

PM me if you want to discuss.

Just remember the three G's of hitching, billyidle. ;)

edit - oops, I mean two G's and an A

Not sure what the 3 G's are but your comment seems crass considering I was offering help to a possible fellow neighbor from the Valley. My brother is a software consultant who went to West Point and recently moved to Boston. Certainly someone who can take care of himself and has has integrity and dignity - unlike that comment.

There is also the train. If you can fly to PHL you can get a reasonably quick SEPTA connection to 30th St. Station, from which you can catch Amtrak's Keystone to Harrisburg. You haven't said where you are actually going in PA, of course. But driving from PHL to pretty much any PA destination would be a lot quicker than driving from NY.

Southwest and US are now competing on the BOS-PHL route so fares are low. You can also take Southwest from PVD-PHL.

At best, it's a push. AVP and ABE are about equidistant from PHL and EWR; if you have to go from LGA/JFK it adds significant time.

MDT is much closer to PHL than any NYC airport.
