What is the meaning of these tax codes?
I searched using "tax codes" but did not find any info. I am booking a QR award on US and was quoted 21 in taxes. Two of the codes are ZP - 7.4 and XF - 9. I think these are taxes charged on paid tickets. May I know what these codes stand for and if they are to be charged on award tickets for flights within the US?

Here is a list, by country, of tax codes:
http://www.geo.at/reiseinfos/doks/list_of_tax_codes.pdf The two codes you list are there under United States of America. Hope it helps. |
XF - Passenger Facility Charge - Usually $4.50 but for some airports it is $3
ZP - Segment tax - Currently $3.70 per segment but adjusted each year for inflation. |

bump anyone?
They are now adding a new tax of $15.60 called "US". US tax is usually $16.10 for international flights (charged in each direction). This sort of "replaces" the 7.5% US tax on domestic tickets. Since award tickets are $0 fare, there is no US tax on domestic awards. A couple of years ago some airline charged a fuel surcharge on award tickets. Then they also had to charge a 7.5% tax on the fuel surcharge. |
