So, am bringing some special paint from PDX all the way to SUB. Its no more than 1/2 fl.oz.

Since paint of any kind is not permitted on the premises of sterile area,

1. Will UA pack the item in a document package and send it all the way to LAX?
2. Will SQ do the same thing from LAX to SIN and eventually to SUB?
3. Is this package (airline standards I believe) accounted as part of my luggage allowance?
4. Since the package is declared, I'm hoping that I won't have any problems with security or customs, etc. Am I correct?

Paint is generally considered a hazardous substance I doubt they will ship it. Why not use FedEx? Cargo carriers can ship things, with all of the correct documentation, that passenger carriers cannot.

If this paint is just 1/2 fl. oz, why can't you just carry it on as part of your liquid allowance? I doubt that it would be handled any differently than nail polish.

Maybe it's radioactive. I wouldn't bring that with me through security. Probably set off all sorts of bells and whistles, not to mention missing your flight.

To those suggesting "just taking it with you" it seems that you obviously have no concern for the safety of the poster, other passengers or crew members onboard the flight.

There are very good reasons why paint, or other articles, may be prohibited for carriage by a passenger, whether the article is on his person, in carry-on baggage or in checked baggage. Suggesting someone circumvent those rules is bordering on being a criminal offense, and I strongly suggest you try to engage brain before keyboard the next time you feel the need to comment on something you know nothing about.

My suggestion would be to figure out whether or not the paint you wish to transport is considered Dangerous Goods, and if it is then follow the rules and regulations to the letter.

You will most likely find that you'll have to do quite a lot of work yourself, including sourcing an approved package and completing a Shippers Declaration of Dangerous Goods. Unless you are in possession of an approved Dangerous Goods certificate, you'll not be allowed to fill the paperwork in yourself. Easiest, but of course not cheapest, option will be to have a freight forwarder specialising in DGR transport to handle everything for you.

Alternatively buy a new can of paint at your arrival destination - it'll probably be cheaper!

1/2 fl. oz in real units is about 15 mL. Minuscule, and no more flammable than the hundreds of bottles of nail polish that pass in plain view of the TSA every day (as STBCypriot points out). I think the likelihood of the OP running into trouble for this is extremely remote, and if you want to criminally prosecute me for saying that, be my guest

Thank you all for your comments. I know they are allowable inside a luggage.. But I just wanted to be on the safe side, especially when carrying lots of holiday gifts and not wanting any nimble fingers touch it just because the paint alarms them.

Come to think of it, I might just have to carry it with me in my luggage. Or I can always stow it inside my carry-on.

rjw242, actually the item does look like a nail polish. It looks like a pen with a ball point head, with a brush inside. Maybe they would treat it like a nail polish like you said?

I don't care what you do with it, unless you drop the blow torch you are trying to light it on fire with or something a half ounce of paint is endangering absolutely nobody.

A half ounce is a standard tablespoon. Seriously, you actually believe a tablespoon of paint (or anything for that matter) will be of any danger to anybody?

Nobody is saying to bring a gallon of paint on, nobody is saying to bring a case full of pressurized cans, but you are talking a tablespoon of liquid, please, explain what paint is possibly so volitle that we need to be warned that we need to

I know about chemistry and paint and things like that, I have a degree in chemistry. While I've not seen this deadly paint, I'm fairly confident in saying a tablespoon of it, even if it should somehow get out, will not cause any danger to anybody.

If TSA finds it when they x-ray your carry-on going thru security, they will take it.

Actually, by the way, non flammable paint is allowed to pass through security, they do not ban all paint. Since you indicate you can check it I'm assuming it's non flammable, as you can only check non-flammable paint. So if it's non-flammable, this entire thread may be a waste

Because a half ounce is way below the 3.4 ounce restriction.

I've had liquids (toothpaste, soap, shampoo) stowed in my carry-on for every flight I've taken this year. Either the TSA never saw them on the X-ray, or did see them but didn't care enough to take them away.
