Is it tacky to ask to be "guested into a lounge"?

Hello all, been pondering this, is it tacky or in poor taste to use this board to ask if someone can "guest" you into one of the first class lounges when one is just traveling in J?

Since OMNI is, in general, a forum for subjects other than miles, points or travel, we're going to move this thread to TravelBuzz.

Please enjoy at it's new home.

Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing! If anyone asked me, I wouldn't think any different of them, and I would do it:D

It is tacky just to ask if it is tacky.

To me I see this issue as a grey area, I would never ask if I was traveling only in discount Y. And I am not PA kettle thinking the amenities of F and J are a God given right when you purchase bottom basement Y. I on the other hand travel most of the time in J and have seen the AC dozens of times and would like to see the FL once. I do not have quite enough miles for an F ticket, and will probably never have the money to make F a "reasonable" purchase.

I don't think so - on the DL board, we have a thread devoted to those asking to be guested and those willing to host: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...irst-post.html

Several of the FlyerTalk airline forums have threads, often stickied, where FTers may meet others at or near the airline club location so that a club member may host a non-member. (See, as examples, the Delta (link above), Continental and United forums). The participants in those threads obviously don't think it's tacky.

As to whether non-F guests are allowed in a lounge for F-class passengers, will be up to the airline involved.

Yes. Freeloading is tacky.

Not in this case, at least not to me -- and I don't say it because I do it as I'm already a lifetime member of the AA, UA, and DL clubs. Given how the carriers treat their customers, I view it as a very minor way of fighting back.

I have never thought of that, though one of my coworker guested me in one occastion. I will find the right colleague to travel with next time.

the more important question is: "if a hot girl asks you to guest her into the lounge, can you legally/morally say no?"

Yes. It's an exclusive club and you don't belong in it. If you did, you wouldn't need to ask someone.

As has been noted, some airline fora (QF in my case) have threads devoted to posting details of when one is lounging and whether one can 'guest' someone.

On that basis I wouldn't have a problem with someone requesting I guest (host?) them into the lounge (be it J or F) - it's my choice to post those details of when I'll be there and whether I have a guest spot available.

I'd be happy, in certain circumstances, to request same, but would be never just ask a total stranger 'out of the blue' (i.e. would need to 'know' the FT/AFF member involved)

I haven't had a real life question, but would be happy to oblige a fellow FTer when I'm looking at the right board/thread.

If it were really an exclusive club, they wouldn't let me in. But somehow, they do :D
