What about Marquette, MI? Never been there but all accounts look good.

Good call on Kyoto. I thought of it after my original post...That is definitely on my list to visit.

You're kidding right? I live in Tampa & have made numerous visits to Kissimmee & Orlando since my childhood. It's far from being a fairy tale city.

Agree with Bruges.
I would add Venice (especially in the hours around sunset or right after dawn) and Lake Louise, Alberta (Canada). Different reasons. The Lake Louise area is simply unreal in terms of natural beauty.

My choices
Annecy, France (the old part of town).
Geneva (again the old part on the right bank)
And the person who said Chester England also has my vote.

Parts of Strasbourg, France and definitely Colmar, France.
Also, non-skiing villages of the Otztal Valley in Austria, especially around late October/early November. I highly recommend Langenfeld.
