Colorado Springs has a ton of things to do. Pike's Peak (cog railway or drive to the top), Air Force Academy, Garden of the Gods, Olympic Training site, a good zoo, Cowboy museum, caves, hiking trails galore, waterfalls, Pederson Air Force base (plane museum), Olympic skating museum, etc...

My #1 vote goes to Las Vegas. Been there many times and still love it. ^

Minneapolis-St. Paul in the summer. You can enjoy the chain of lakes, lots of live theater, a fine array of restaurants, more ethnic variety than you'd think, and a great symphony orchestra.

Portland, Oregon, with the best public transit system in any city of its size in the U.S., easy access to both mountains and ocean, a pleasant, walkable downtown, all the big city cultural institutions (again, most located within walking distance of one another), the largest urban forest (Forest Park) in the country, laced with hiking trails, magnificent flowers March through June, not much rain May through September, and bookstores, jazz, and live theater all year.

My list (some already mentioned, some new):

Taos, NM (could combine with Santa Fe and Albuquerque)
Durango, CO (on the rustic side)
Colorado Springs/Manitou Springs, CO
Denver/Ft. Collins, CO
Monterey/Morro Bay, Central Coast California
Seattle
New Orleans
Fayetteville, Arkansas (especially in the Spring)
Victoria, BC
San Antonio, TX
Even possibly Lubbock, TX - not beautiful, but big skies, friendly people and enough to do to keep you busy for a couple of days: Buddy Holly Museum, Windmill Museum, Lubbock Lake Landmark, BBQ, wine tasting. If you're "lucky" you might even get to see a genuine West Texas sand storm.

I have not heard of Taos and Durango.

Another vote for Louisville. Muhammad Ali Center, Kentucky Bourbon Trail, Kentucky Derby and the fantastic 21c Museum Hotel, voted the nicest hotel in the US (and living up to the standard).

Can't say enough good things about The Ville.

Are you referring to the available activities or the hotel room rates on such a weekend?

My votes are for Boise and Spokane.
