Seems we were both having a Hitchcock moment at the same time. :)

My dad's pick:

Hotel

"Mystery Train" by Jim Jarmusch. A young Japanese couple (serious Elvis fans) who arrive by train stay at a seedy Memphis hotel. . .

The brilliant (if obscure) 1980 film "The Stunt Man" was filmed in and around the del Coronado Hotel in San Diego:

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'll throw in one for the Hilton crowd. Week-End at the Waldorf http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038239/

I'll take "Hotel New Hampshire" - maybe the oddest hotel on record. FWIW, I liked John Irving's book a bit better than the movie, but still....

Which reminds me: Some Like It Hot

I also enjoyed Queen Latifah in Last Holiday.

Hotel Del Coronado--Some like it Hot!! Thanks for the reminder. This was one of the funniest movies of all time with Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis. Closing line: "Nobody's perfect." One of the best lines in the history of films.

Also can't forget the Hyatt Regency San Francisco, whose large central atrium played a role in the Mel Brooks parody of / homage to Hitchcock, High Anxiety.

I had tried to keep my selections to films which featured hotels (or a motel for Psycho) as an integral component to the narrative. But seeing that others are posting films which just used hotels as locations - I have another pick:

Casino

Afterall, there was a hotel on top of the casino and mention is made of the guests that are comped, and then there's the scene where Pesci calls the front desk to find out which rooms are ready to be robbed....

And to the poster who listed The Stuntman - yes, WONDERFUL film. (And I don't categorize it as obscure at all, not for people who love film).

The Palace in SF was the setting for the finale of the Michael Douglas thriller, "The Game."

Much of "Lost in Translation" was set in the Park Hyatt Tokyo.

I loved "To catch a Thief" Alfred Hitchcock's thriller with Grace Kelly and Cary Grant filmed on the French Riviera with many scenes at the Carlton. Watched it recently after my sea view suite stay there
