I'm curious to see what the "Heavy Duty" flyers do in a year?
jfk-sfo-dfw-nrt-mnl-bkk-nrt-ord-sfo (24740 mi) and have booked sfo-lax,san-lax-sfo-hkg-bne-cns-syd-sin-hkg-sfo (26522 mi) and have tentatively planned but not booked sfo-jfk-sfo-ord-pit-ord-pvg-hkg-pvg-ord-pit-sfo-jfk (28769 mi) (possibly 1 more JFK-SFO leg if I have to come home before NY for my christmas trip to visit family.) Which will, I think, me a record year for me - although the Australia/Singapore trip is an award, so I don't think there's any chance even with the 2xEQM promo out of PIT that I'll have any shot at EXP. All of the above either recreational, or to see family. (Figures above are per gcmap.com; AA's mileage figures - and all of those were AA or OW partners except for MNL-BKK leg on Cebu Pacific - vary slightly.) (Also, to be clear, those are not 3 itineraries - any time it gets back to SFO there is a fair bit of gap in time :) ) |
I'm currently just under 90k and have at least two more trips to China and one to the UK planned as well as cross country 2x per month. Estimate I'll end up around 140k which is by far my busiest travel year yet.
|
I'm only at 40k thus far, but my heavy flying season is usually Fall and Winter. I'm guessing I'll hit 125-150k for the year, which I consider pretty light (Only 8-10 flights per month), considering a high proportion of FTers far dwarf that.

Thats probably just above median on FlyerTalk. Plenty of folks who do much much more.
To that end, I've created a survey which asks for your elite level and the expected BIS miles on all airlines in 2010. It's just 2 questions, so please take it :) I'll report back when I have enough responses to be meaningful. TAKE MY SURVEY!!! 2010 Expected BIS Flight Miles |
I'll fly enough to requalify for EXP on AA, plus 3 or 4 roundtrips on other carriers not earning on AA, so probably about 125K, nearly all of it personal.
|
Every Week
I fly one round trip per week other than Thanksgiving and two weeks off for Christmas. 49 round trips @ approximately 1,000 miles each way = 98,000 miles. I don't keep track of miles because I fly WN exclusively (285 credits in the last 24 months).
I am a software consultant. |
22,000 miles so far this year; probably another 38,000 by the end of the year, which is likely to be my highest year so far. Only a small amount of my travel is for business.
|
I'm at only 34K BIS this miles and I'm expecting another 5K-10K more. I flew 77K last year. I fly a lot more flights than I do miles, with 221 flights in 2009 (for only 77K miles). Most of the flying was/is for fun.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry9650/5.0.0.699 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)
I've flown about 75k so far and expect to fly another 75k paid + a 23k mile award trip :) |
I'm not in the same league with most of those here, but I fly about 3 days a week. Unfortunately it's mostly short hops. I fly AA to DFW (and a few cities from there), and will have about 35k with them at year's end. I fly mostly CO to IAH, will have about 10k with them this year. All the rest are on WN (I'm in LBB) and I've already earned CP for the 7th year in a row.
|
36k by the end of the year. 15k done so far. All of my travel is leisure. I can grab Aeroplan Elite with 35K miles so that's always my benchmark. For leisure I don't see any benefit of going >35k, least on AC.

Small sample size and all (16 responses) but, so far, the median range of BIS miles expected in CY 2010 according to my survey is 100k-149,999. 9/16 say 100k or more, 7/16 say less than 100k. Only 1 so far has selected more than 200k miles.
