Please help "Southern China" or "Emirates"?

Hi,

I must be in guangzhou from 14th to 20th april. There are only two options how to get to guangzhou from vienna.
Either with emirates on 12th via dubai, with a 11hr stay in DXB and a connection flight to hongkong or with KLM from vienna to amsterdam with a 1-2hr stay and an approx. 15h flight to guangzhou.

pros of option 1: emirates is better than southern china. theres no 15hrs flight (i must go with economy, so its kinda hard)
cons: flight is to hk, must take the coach from the airport to guangzhou (3h drive) 11h stay in dubai, but i own a diners club card, so can get to the first class lounge with showers and bedroom.

pros of option 2: i go directly to guangzhou
cons: .... airline, 15h flight in economy class

which one would u go for? what is the best solution?

I have never flown Southern China, so I can not speak about them as an airline. But, normally when I am flying to far away destinations I just want to get there as quickly as possible. Even if it does mean suffering through a 15 hour flight. I do Dubai to the east coast about 3 times a year and one time I had it routed through AMS. It was nice for a break but when we took back off I could not help thinking to myself that if I would have taken the direct to IAD or JFK I would have been there already.

I don't see any AMS-CAN flights. I do see CDG and FRA flights nonstop to CAN.

I don't think you're seeing all the flights you can take. You can fly to BKK, TPE, DEL, DOH, PEK, ICN...

Download this FTer program. http://arm.64hosts.com/

...whereas I am the exact opposite. I much prefer to break up long flights if at all possible, and will intentionally look for a connection to break up the journey, and if possible, even take a one-day layover. It really depends on your own psychological and physical make-up as to which you prefer. Then you have to add in the difference in airline quality to make the final decision.

I tend to agree with this, provided that I have the extra time for an overnight (or more) along the way. If I can't spend the extra days away, I'd probably take the nonstop -- long miserable flight, but the lack of a stop will usually cut a good couple of hours from the total flying time.

You can get to Guangzhou very very easily from HKG. There are connections direct from the airport. A bus is about 3 hours. Or if you cross the border at Shenzhen a 55minute 300km/h train ride away.

I'd be careful about both if you are flying economy -- CZ in economy on the 777s have 10 across seating as do Emirates
