Baggage checking regarding 2 airlines

Would anyone be able to tell me if i could get my baggage checked all the way through from washington DC to auckland nz, traveling on United Airlines from DC to LA, then Air New Zealand from LA to NZ?

If anyone would be able to help it would be much appreciated

If you're on one ticket, that's the way they'll do it. If the two flights are on separate tickets, I think you can still check in for both flights (I assume this is at IAD) and they'll tag the bags through.

If you have time you might actually want to recheck with ANZ yourself to minimize interline transfer problems, not a strong point at LAX. Otherwise you can indeed interline it if you're on a single ticket.

Thanks for the quick responses, and yeah it is from IAD

Call United and ask if they have an interline agrrement with ANZ. I suspect that they do. Then you can check your luggage all the way through, even if you have 2 separate tickets (just give them both tickets wehn you are checking in).

I had this problem when I booked with expedia back in the day. 2 different airlines. I ended up missing the connecting flight because I had to get the bags then go through security again and recheck them at another airline. The whole process took about 1.5 hours. Now I book directly through the airlines.

In 2005, I was flying UA SEA-SFO and NZ SFO-AKL-SYD on seperate tickets. E-ticket on UA and paper on NZ.
In SEA, I asked to be checked through to SYD and showed them the NZ ticket. Bag was checked through and was issued boarding passes for all sectors. I just had to change the passes from UA stock to NZ stock at the gate in SFO.
