Mileage run to China to stiock up on wine?
China's wine industry is growing rapidly. Can you se yourself making a mileage run to China to stock up on wine?

I live in CA so get pretty darn great local wines. Never had Chinese wine and until I do, don't see it happening. Now, a trip to Oz or Spain and loading up on the vino - most defo!

Wine from China?!? I've never even seen any.
|
On my way back from a trip to Napa / Sonoma right now stuck in Chicago for a bit.
There are several cases following me by various carriers, and one in my luggage. Prices were totally incredible as many of the wineries really need two things, space for the stuff they need to bottle, and cash to pay their bills. No, I don't believe I'll be buying any from China anytime soon, but should I find one I like I'll most certainly consider it. |

Slightly OT. The Chinese wine industry is growing and joint ventures partners are coming in from overseas. A search in Bing brings you many such as the following: Sino-French Joint Venture Dynasty Winery Ltd. http://www.123giftfactory.com/compan...inery-ltd.html And read this: http://www.gluckman.com/ChinaWine.html Read this Grape Wall of China http://www.grapewallofchina.com/2008/01/31/ |
OP, do you mean Chinese-produced wine, or wine for sale in China?
Chinese wine (made in China) just plain sucks. Perhaps you are thinking about the recent repeal of excise tax on wine in Hong Kong, which makes the auction of high-value wines (mostly French and cult California wines) very lucrative there. In this case, yes, I can see many people making trips to China (Hong Kong, that is) to buy wine. Except the wine they are buying is Western wine, not Chinese in origin. |
I don't even buy hard liquor in China due to rampant counterfeiting. Wines are definitely out of my book.

at an event at the chinese embassy, i had both Dynasty and Great Wall. wine has to be pretty bad before i won't drink it, and these two readily past the undrinkable test. i cannot imagine how you can screw up grapes that badly.

ROFL :D
|
Worst. Idea. Ever. ;)
|
Given that I have Sonoma and Napa within a 2-3 hour drive, no I'm not going to buy a plane ticket and pay for a visa to go to China to get wine.
|
Maybe the OP's wine is an euphemism for something else.:D
