Shortest Flight

Anyone been on a real short flight.

CO at one time operated even 737's from IAH-HOU.

Many years back EA and DL would operated from FLL to MIA usually for
either market consolidation or aircraft positioning.

At one time I lived in FLL. Was going to NAS one weekend. Took a morning
flight FLL-MIA changed planes in MIA for NAS.

I flew CO FLL-PBI-CLE

I think AA used to do a IAD-DCA that continued on to DFW

I do not think I have ever seen scheduled flights JFK-LGA-EWR or any
combination, only ferry flights.

YYJ/YVR clocks in quite frequently at less than 15 minutes, and almost never more than 25.

I think my shortest on a mainline jet was the TUS-PHX run on an A319. Also years ago I've done COS-DEN on a 737 or a 727. Both flights were up and down. Of course, Hawaiian flight times to the islands are all short as well.

two shortest for me would probably be
ROC-BUF (45 min by car)
DEN-COS
SJC-SFO

A few times more than a few years ago..... I've flown OAK-SFO when UA (and/or AA) when flights from ORD-OAK went on to SFO (and vice-versa).

Mine was in the Orkney Islands in Northern Scotland with Papa Westray to Westray in a Norman-Britten Islander takes a couple of minutes, sometimes less. I took the flight because of that. I think it is the shortest scheduled flight in the world, or was.

There was a flight from Wings Field (LOM) near Philadelphia to PHL using Islanders and Trislanders that lasted about ten minutes. they've gone out of business, I think. I never took the flight but one of their pilots taught me to fly.

The two shortest for me in a jet have been:

(1) Luxembourg - Saarbrucken. A couple of times it looked as if the plane was slowing down. Probably they did not want to arrive too early or people would ask for a refund.

(2) Juneau - Gustavus (Glacier Bay). Alaska Air anounced it as the shortest in the world. Surely it isn't but it was pretty short.

SFO-OAK and vv, scheduled for ten minutes on a TWA L-1011 so that they could claim direct and connecting service to Oakland from the East Coast. Typically about 10-30 passengers and a standard crew, IIRC.

Plattsburgh NY to Burlington VT (PBG-BTV) - 20 mile, 6 minute flight, but a 2 hour drive around the lake

MHH-TCB - 10 minutes on a Yellow Air Taxi Cessna, 8 minutes on a Bahamasair Dash 8

Half an hour drive on the island's only road.

Anyone remember Piedmont (PI) before it was absorbed by US Airways?

Now, go back a bit further, to the 1960's. Piedmont, based in Winston-Salem, NC, served that city's Smith Reynolds Airport (INT) in addition to what today is Piedmont Triad (GSO). As a kid I took a Piedmont flight from GSO to INT. I think that's roughly a trip of 18 miles or so.

Growing up and living in the Hawaiian Islands:

HA and AO (Aloha now defunct)
HNL-LIH: 18 minutes on HA DC-9 10/30/50, MD-81 now B-717; AO BAC 1-11 200 and B 737-200/300/400

In 2004, HA used to operate HNL-LNY-MKK-OGG with 717s, each segment probably had a 7 min. flying time.

I seem to recall over 20 yrs. ago UA operated SFO-OAK as short turn with B-747s but I stand to be corrected on that.

My shortest flight was from Virgin Gorda (VIJ) to Tortola (EIS) - 7 miles, maybe 5 minutes. I was the only passenger, sat next to the pilot.

As soon as we took off, we could see our destination!

It was my final segment of 3 to get from Vieques to Tortola. Had to fly VQS-SJU-VIJ-EIS for a total of 149 miles, it is only 66 miles from Vieques to Tortola. The stop in Virgin Gorda was for BVI customs.

;)
