Dissertation Topics
 

Hey everyone,

I'm sure that many of you have gone through this phase but now I'm stuck in it. I've spent ages and there's been nothing clear cut in regards to topics within the airline or aviation industry. So is there anything you know that could be interesting within that industry

Perhaps you should explore the phenomenal growth of Air Asia and Air Asia X as well as the short history of FlyAsiaXpress. IMO it is a much better story than that of the predatory (to its customers) Ryan Air.

The reasons why the air traffic control system has never been updated, despite many attempts. In other words, the political environment of air travel.

What level thesis? (Bachelor's, Master's, doctoral?)

What major field? (Marketing? Strategy? Operations research? Aero engineering? It makes a big difference!)

What university and (if applicable) what college/faculty/department within it, if that doesn't provide too much personal identification? If it does, what general type of university/etc., and in what country?

Do you have an advisor, or a pool of possible advisors? What are their specialties? If you're at the graduate level, do they have an research grants you could work on?

We can give you a lot of help, but we need something to work with beyond the word "dissertation."

i think you are on the wrong forum, most people here got kicked out of third grade for not shaving and don't know what a Dissertation is

Are you math? Business? Public policy?

Has the public's expectations (esp. in the US) been set too low in terms of affordability? Given the low salaries of airline employees and illegal "crash pads" being set up across the country?

Companies like L-3 Communications that are benefiting from security theatre technology being promoted by DHS/TSA.

I'd like to see a study and comparison of airlines that charge fees versus airlines that do not charge fees. The study would determine if airlines are really making a profit by charging fees or if it is just a big shell game to cover mounting costs compared to airlines that have just followed "old school" service without fees for basic services.

Having sponsored numerous Master's and Ph.D. theses, I would just like to say that part of writing a thesis is doing the research to find an interesting topic in the first place. Simply going around and asking others to provide a topic for you does not substitute for this effort.

I thought the general convention was:

Bachelors - Term Paper
Masters - Thesis
PhD - Dissertation

In any event, the OP seems to either be deliberately vague about or isn't sure what level of degree he is going for, in spite of being asked several times. I also find it odd that he is seeking ideas for a dissertation here. You'd think someone in an graduate degree program would be more influenced by research going on at his institution and being done by his advisor(s) than by asking strangers on an internet board.

Good point. Now we need to consider what diabolical purpose was behind this request. But before I do that, I need to find out how to spell diabolical. :D

I believe that's the general convention for the U.S. colleges and universities. I recall reading at least three similar threads "authored" by non US-based FTers that asked for input for their "dissertations." Two turned out to be for undergrad requirement and another for master's. Oh, there's one more. Once a newbie indicated writing a "thesis" for his college course work.

Knowing as much (or should I say "as little") as what had been revealed in this thread, I highly doubt OP's working on a dissertation for Ph.D in the States. Let me rephrase, if someone is in the dissertation stage and still has no clear direction of the topic or passion in his field, that someone is surely in deep trouble. It's more reasonable to seek help for data collection from FT or other online fora. A dissertation topic? Not so much!

Without his own clarification of his level of degree, FTers in the know won't be able to provide better fitting suggestions. I would think talking to the professor or advisor may work better for the OP.
