Airlines lowering prices?

I frequently travel to south america, more specifically to Lima, Peru at least 4-8 times a year. Because of that, i am always searching for cheap flights out of IAH , that's where i am based, and I noticed that prices for several airlines have dropped in the past 2 days. I am talking about $100+ difference in price in the same flight from one day to the other. Is this a tendency and we should expect lower fares for the next few week? I am going to hold on for now to book my ticket for my february trip in hopes to get a cheaper fare.

I haven't seen any significant price changes from BOS.

Hi there,

Don't count on it. When you see a fare that you like, buy it. At the present time, fuel prices are increasing due to the various snowstorms in Europe and the US. Thus prices will go up. They might go down again next week.

The moral of the story is ... if you like the price, go for it, don't wait for the unexpected.

Cheers,

The market is not uniform. Airlines make money where they can and lower prices when they must. I just snagged a $1,000 RT business-class JFK/LAX fare. Lowest in several weeks. Pure chance. Will undoubtedly rise soon. Don't look for trends. Just buy when a price seems good.

I think another reason may be that after the holiday season, there is less demand for travel, therefore you are likely to see lower prices just after a major holiday.

I agree that if you see it, buy it. You never know when the good deals are going to come around again.

Need Opinion

Speaking of airlines lowering prices. I need to book a flight from ORD-ATL on Jan 14-16. The price is $262 round trip. I recently booked the same itinerary on different dates for about $210. Farecompare says the price should drop by about $50 within the next couple days. I'm thinking the price will drop after the new year, but that will be less than 14 days.

Should I buy now or take a chance that the price will drop?

Thanks!
