Where is the data stored for miletracker or deskport?
I upgraded to deskport. It exceeded the size of my desktop. The only way I can close it is with control alt delete which makes my system unstable. I need to reinstall windows on this machine anyway for other reasons.
My question is where is the miletracker data or deskport data or what are the file names. I would like to save the data before reformatting the HD. Deskport simply says the data is in the deskport data folder but there is no such folder name? I think there is a lesson to be learned here in the new internet economy when you fall in love with something free the love afair isn't going to last forever. |
I still use the old program which works just fine. All I do is reset the date on my PC to June 1, 2004. Any date after June 17 (?) causes the old program not to work.

I hate to change the system time/date. I have been doing it to keep on using Miletracker. Are there any other shareware programs like Miletracker out there? I do not want to store my information on somebody's server.

1. change date to June 10 or later. 2. bring up miletracker 3. change date back to current date 4. hit the update function |
A possible workaround

I might still have a copy of the application saved somewhere, or if not, I'd imagine there are similar utilities available. |
Mile Tracker
Quite interesting that 95 people have responded on how bad the new version is, Generally those who complain are a small percentage of those who just go away.
Fortunately I have moved from a hard core road warrior to an occaisional Flyer and most of my accounts are now static. If I was still traveling 110 % I would be very frustrated. Looks like I need to reset my date retreive my orphan balances and go back to the excel method. Obviously the voluntary contribution wasn't working for Moonlight Labs- good luck to those of you who still need the product. |
Deskport Convert
When Deskport first came out and the demise of MileTracker as a standalone was announced, I was really pissed. I use MileTracker on a daily basis to track multiple, and I mean really multiple accounts, and in each one, multiple programs. And to add insult, Deskport was taking over my computer, and MileTracker was working really, really poorly.
Well, i must say it has incredibly improved. Deskport now behaves and appears and stays around only when i want it to, and MileTracker has never worked better. I've no connection with the author, although i freely pass along to him any problems or suggestions i might have. I really appreciate the program and no longer have ANY problem with using Deskport. I'd gladly pay for the thing so long as MileTracker is part of it. For anyone as pissed off as I was when Deskport first came out, you may want to take another look. MileTracker is back! Steve |
:td: I have tried the new Deskport and absolutely hate it! There's way too much junk on the screen, it's poorly designed (no style, no layout thought, etc....BAD), and I see no purpose in having this program on my computer. I too would love to have Mike bring back Miles Tracker -- what a nice little program that keeps your miles updated instantly! Let's all start a campaign to bring it back!!! PLEASE Mike, bring it back!

Firefox and DeskPort?
I'm trying DeskPort again, and it's better. For one thing, the mega-sized icon at lower left of the monitor is no longer the only choice, and the oversized default icon now can be replaced with a normal-size one in the Preferences (bottom of the DeskPort window). Maybe the next version of DP will do away with the big icons and just use a normal icon like every other application on the planet.
A weird thing is that none of the 10 functionalities (mini-programs) of DeskPort work on my computer. All that is visible is the title of the functionality (e.g., Mapquest, White Pages, Dictionary, MileTracker, etc.), and a vertical panel on the right listing all them. The remainder of the page is blank. Edited to add: This happens whether Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer 6 is the default web browser. |

Uh...
In response to the last few previous posts...
1. Miletracker does NOT store your stuff on some one else's server... only on YOUR computer. Don't pretend to be an expert on everything, but Yodlee DID use to store your stuff on "some one else's server" which is why a number of the more prominent credit unions around the country refused to sign up with them for their membership. I assume Yodlee still DOES store your stuff elsewhere, and will wait to be corrected...if ever; i KNOW miletracker doesn't. 2. All of the mini programs in Deskport work on my computer, and i use XP and IE 6. |
