New tool: Routing Ruler
Hi,
Since routing rules can get pretty complex quickly and as I couldn't find a tool that helped me with their analysis, I built Routing Ruler. It's a web app that serves as an add-on to Expert Flyer Premium. It reads, interprets, and visualizes the routing rules published as part of an Expert Flyer Premium subscription. For details, please check the "LEARN MORE" section on www.routingruler.com. I'd greatly appreciate your feedback. Thanks, Axel |
Free version available now
There is now also a (very limited) free version.
MileageMaximizer mode: - Only one randomised third of all calculated routings is displayed. - Limited to 100 potential routings (instead of 3,000 in the paid version). EgoTrip mode: - Not available. Why no time-limited trial version? As the complexity of a routing rule increases, the number of possible combinations increases exponentially, as does the computational load and the associated costs. I hope this is understandable. |
Compatible with KVS Tool now
Compatible with KVS Tool now as well.

Amadeus compatible
Also works with routing rules in Amadeus format now.

CPM added

Has anyone figured out how to get Cost Per Miles (CPM) with the new ITA Matrix?
Since the OLD ITA Matrix (Old ITA Matrix is sunsetting soon, it's a crucial piece of (missing) information in the new version. Maybe someone has devised a Chrome extension. I was hoping that PowerTools might have a feature to support this request, but not so. I have asked the team at ITA Matrix for this feature a few times since they unveiled the new version; without any response from them. |
No more sign up necessary
I made the following improvements:
- You no longer need to sign up for the free version. - There is a short tutorial now when you first visit the website. - I included example routings rules that you just need to click on to get started. |
Interesting tool — visualizing routing rules is something many people underestimate until they actually have to decode a complex fare. The ExpertFlyer add-on angle makes a lot of sense.
A couple of questions out of curiosity: how does Routing Ruler handle highly permissive rules where EF itself already returns a lot of edge-case routings? And do you plan to add any filtering or weighting logic (e.g. practical vs theoretical routings)? Also good to see KVS compatibility — that should make it more useful for people who already rely on it in their workflow. |
