Right click on the icon to the left of the URL in the browser's nav bar, and choose "Edit Search Engines." (If this doesn't work, try navigating to chrome://settings/searchEngines directly.) Scroll to the bottom and add a new entry:
And boom, you've got instant nav-bar google search for FT. Just start typing flyertalk into the URL bar, press <tab>, and you've got an instant FT search. |
The only icons to the left of the URL in Chrome (version 48.0.2564.82 m) on my Windows 7 computer are the home button and the one that looks like a page with a folded corner, inside the URL field, that gives site information, i.e., security and permissions. Right clicking on either does not produce an option of editing search engines.
As a moderator, I use the search the forums frequently, so quicker search method than using the inefficient FT search tool or manually typing "site:flyertalk.com/forum" in the Google search field would be welcome. |

The icon I'm referring to is the little "Document" icon right to the left of the www in this screenshot: http://cl.ly/3p293w1q2K3B/Image%2020...38.15%20AM.png Then, when you right click, you see this menu, and must choose the "Edit Search Engines…" option. http://cl.ly/332O1B3H361z/Image%2020...40.36%20AM.png |
Alternatively, try navigating to chrome://settings/searchEngines

As I wrote above, right clicking on the "document" or, as I referred to it, "page with a folded corner" icon produced site information, i.e., security and permissions. However, experimenting some more, right clicking on the actual URL address results in a drop down menu including "Edit search engines..." |

Well, it's different in Windows.
