BinBin - Ship stuff anytime, anyday.
Hi this is a new side project of mine that helps people that need to send stuff to other cities to connect with travelers going to those destinations.
The platform its still in the works so any feedback that I can get would be highly appreciated. The idea came from my own desire to have the option to send something the same day or at night, or on the weekend to another city whenever the post office is not open (where I live they only open M-F, from 10-5pm). I'm open to suggestions, after all this is a forum to discuss ideas, and information. www.binbin.us Thanks in advance! -Ramon |
Great timing. I have this heavy, ticking parcel that I require you to deliver to another city (as long as you travel by air)
Thanks. |
So I understand where you come from with the sarcasm. But the same goes with regular shipping services. If you worry about trust, it is a valid point but keep in mind that many other services rely on this as well. Craigslist, AirBnB, RideJoy, Lyft, and I can keep mentioning.
I just want honest feedback, if you have any please write it down. Thanks. |
The big difference being the FBI will be chasing down the shipper who tried to mail said packages, not UPS or FedEx.

Are you even allowed to carry something onto an airplane that you didn't pack yourself? Would anyone want to?
I certainly wouldn't... -S |
BinBinus, most of the comments are gonna be geared in the short term towards restrained (or not) skepticism. Much have come from believing in goodwill, and website from rideshares to couchsurfing have proven that there's a market for community services that believe that the vast majority of people actually have good intentions.
Before you get me to sign up, tough, you should answer those basic questions on your website : - Does the website checks for id of the sender and transporter ? - Are the packages sealed ? How is shipping safety achieved ? - How are the pick up and the delivery of the packages handled ? At the airport ? Most people wouldn't accept to transport a package from a stranger lurking around the check in desks (I have had that request in real life). The website could help if it provide the layer of simplicity and security that the real-life approach doesn't. |

I have the impression that your concept would be done at significantly reduced cost? - As MtlChris asked, ID for both participants would be an important thing to address. Some sort of solid assurance of a proper ID check might assuage some fears, but probably not many. - Liability. What if the "transporter" (person carrying the item) misses a connection for reasons arguably within his control; damages or loses the package? Who is held accountable? THere may also be liability issues if the carrying of the package has some impact to the transporter. - The issue of any illegal goods being inside the package. When the rubber meets the road, the transporter is going to have a difficult time not taking at least some of the rap for it. Even with an ID check, IDs can be faked...or the shipper could be unaware of an item being prohibited. - Would you sign up interested transporters in advance to gain an idea of what airports you could potentially service? How would you build enough of a reliable pool of people to make it workable for a shipper? Random chance in pairing up a shipper-in-need with someone headed to their shipping destination, at the right day and time, seems like a shakey proposition. |
Website would be more useful if we could actually see anything without registering. There isn't even enough info here to convince me it's worth the sign-up.
