Nokia enters netbook market with Booklet 3G - NDTV Gadgets

I am interested to have a play with one, what are peoples thoughts on this?

I think price will make or break this. If it comes at a higher price for the performance, then I am not sure people will pay.

12 hour battery life? Is that with a standard non-protruding battery? Impressive for a device under 3 pounds.

and more.....

PCWorld

While the original intention of the netbook form factor may have been to have a small, cheap computer for Web surfing, the Nokia Booklet 3G appears to be geared more for the worker on the go than the cash strapped student. It also is poised to create a new class of mobile worker who eschews smartphones and uses a basic phone in tandem with a netbook instead....

Netbooks like this could create a market shift away from smartphones in general. Rather than pay for a separate data plan for both a smartphone and a netbook, it may make sense for some mobile professionals to carry a simpler phone and pull something like the Booklet 3G from their briefcases or purses when it comes time to check a map, search the Net, or write an e-mail. Certainly this would help alleviate the frustration that many experience with their smartphone's battery life.
Business Week

This may be a move by Nokia to grab initiative from rival Apple. In the past several years, the iPhone maker has managed to grab significant share in the lucrative, fast-growing market for smartphones away from Nokia. Apple is also rumored to be developing a tablet netbook. With this announcement, Nokia may be trying to beat Apple to the punch.

If that battery life is true then that is fantastic. My netbook can get me through a mid length journey but a 12 hour battery life would mean far less worry about where you're gonna get to the next power point.

+1 on the battery life salivation. Weight and batter life are my key criteria.

That said, I'm interested by the idea that the much anticipated Apple tablet will wind up being an iPhone based (mostly just a bigger screen & better input mechanism) and wind up with a long battery life. I know steve jobs has deferred apple tablet projects before because of battery life.

I highly doubt it, unless T-Mobile orders a version specifically for their network.

I agree - why on earth do netbook makers always insist on doing something to completely ruin the experience?

Sorry about bumping this one. I got my Booklet 3G in the mail today. What a gorgeous machine. The 1GB is still a nasty limit, but the build quality is fantastic.

So can you give us some first hand experiences on the battery life once you've used it for a while?

Without changing any power settings, I had it turned on, sitting on my desk for 9 hours yesterday, and it still claimed it had 45 minutes left. Soon, I'll do a similar test with some power management tweaks.

wiredboy10003 Jan 14, 2010 6:38 am

Scott, did you buy it outright or did you sign up for a data plan?
