So I followed these instructions:
Hi. I had the same problem and found the answer elsewhere. What you have to do is start the Windows Audio Service. For some reason it gets stopped. Here's what the post said: Go to Start --> Run, and type in services.msc. A window will pop up with a list of services. Scroll down to Windows Audio. Right-click and click on Properties. Make sure that "Startup type" is set to automatic. Also, make sure, under "Service status," start is selected. Hope this helps! Good luck. |

When you restart the computer, the windows audio service isn't running? When you change the startup type to automatic, did you hit apply? That's the only thing I can think of. Hitting start will start the service immediately, but if you change the startup type, that change won't be saved if you don't hit the "apply" button. When you change the startup type, the apply button changes from grayed out to selectable. Was it set to "disabled"? I have it set to "automatic" on this system (vista). The default for it is "automatic". Did you change it at some point? Anyway, glad to hear you figured out. -David |

I did hit apply, but it didn't help. I ended up doing a factory restore, so as annoying as it was, it's nice to have a "fresh" computer without problems.
