Blocking the glowing apple on a macbook

I'm just on the verge of getting a Macbook Pro 13". The aluminium billet body is what is winning me over and with bootcamp I can still have a windows machine for those things that must be on windows.
The one thing holding me back is the stupid glowing apple on the back of the screen. I hate being a mobile billboard for company logos! I certainly don't want to be an iDork.
Is there anyway to block it that looks neat and tidy?
Does any company sell aluminium cut outs that one could glue into place on the silly glowing apple?

stevenshev Jul 4, 2009 6:35 pm

How about not being an iPoser and just getting a PC?

cordelli Jul 4, 2009 8:02 pm

Believe it's just a window to the screen backlight, so the only way is to shut off the monitor (which of course makes no sense) or a sticker or something over it.

Jimmy O's Jul 4, 2009 8:45 pm

Does this mean you wouldn't put the Apple logo sticker on the back of your car?

hoops7k Jul 4, 2009 8:50 pm

You may want to check this out. It shows you how to add new logos but I am sure you could open it up and cover up the logo from the inside with something black. Maybe a Black vinyl sticker or a black spotlight gel( I don't know if they make these).

+1

its all PC guts these days anyway. it doesn't make sense to want to throw away extra money for computer fashion and then try to cover it up.

kaka Jul 5, 2009 4:45 am

it saves you from buying a very good antivirus software and not have to suffer the effects of it.

Wilbur Jul 5, 2009 7:57 am

Just get a fridge magnet from your kitchen and slap it on your notebook.

;)

you mean firefox (free) and spybot S&D (free). that and a bit of common sense is all I have ever used to keep my PC clean.

If everyone uses common sense then noone needs antivirus software.... so yea, good for you but you dont need to say there is no reason to get a mac.

This thread sounds like a poorly made pc advertisement...LOL :D

Tummy, you forgot the adjectives. ;)

I have a skin on the back of my Macbook Pro that hides the logo. It does shine through a bit, but the skin reduces the visibility. I like the designs from Gelaskins.

"Dude, gat a Dell!"

I always wanted to post that in an Apple thread. Thanks for the opportunity. :p

Your Windows spell checker not working? Get a Mac, man!

One option is to just stop worrying about things that are silly like whether other people see an Apple logo when they are on the other side of your computer. When you are using the computer you won't see it so what does it matter to you?

Excellent point. Alternatively, I would imagine it wouldn't be hard to google 'hide glowing apple' or 'painted backlit apple logo' and some variants, to find any laptop 'mods' like spraypainting the logo, so it's both opaque (-ish?) and the same colour as the unibody metal.

It could be far worse... the sad people who make their white Apple logo the old rainbow one. :D

You mean like this.

More bad news on that front. If you buy a PC you will still have the company logo on it.

DenverBrian Jul 6, 2009 7:06 am

ThinkPad lid logos are small, in the corner, and upside down from the perspective of an onlooker. Yet another reason I have one.

No, because it doesn't glow.

Can I suggest Firefox with the English dictionary add on, that's what I use and it rocks.

politicalhack2 Jul 7, 2009 12:23 am

I really want a Porche but I don't want anyone to know I have one. Maybe I could take the engine out of a Porche and put it in a Ford Tempo. That might solve my problems.

BiziBB Jul 7, 2009 12:55 am

I wonder if anyone has done it properly and had their fruity bit filled with hot metal.

Could an alloy wheel specialist arrange a mould to do a custom fill of this hole?

A replacement lid in Alumin(i)um might be an elegant solution.

xanthuos Jul 7, 2009 1:25 am

Meh...I covered the Toshiba logo on my laptop with a sticker...
http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/3401/loveloveo.jpg

...one of several I have currently on there and will continue to collect & add to.
In addition to the I Love Love sticker, I have a GoGo Inflight Wireless sticker, a Skullcandy Headphones sticker, two music artist/band stickers, and an art gallery sticker. Is there a FT sticker? :)

boberonicus Jul 7, 2009 1:26 am

The nice thing about this thread is that it balances out all of the "why don't you just buy a Mac" comments that have angered people on this forum for so long. I'd be willing to commit to an "alternate hardware suggestion" moratorium. Those "why don't you just buy..." comments are glib and unhelpful.

The engine would probably fit better into a VW bug.

Those who supposedly just say 'why don't you just buy' are not being glib. On the contrary, they see it as really a simple answer to a not very difficult question. Many people asking for advice are not tekkies and are looking for a simple solution for their computer needs. Ever try to explain how to use a Windows operating system to someone that is relatively a computer illiterate (no insult intended).

Btw, never realized there was all this 'pent up' anger at Mac supporters. On the contrary, Mac users belong to a very helpful 'community'.

The OP posing this question is looking for a useful tool or trying to make (or avoid making) a fashion statement???? I see people using computers on my daily train commute, both pc and macs and never noticed the glowing icon....

The pent up anger is easy to understand once you use a Windows machine a while.

ayeleswarapu Jul 7, 2009 6:34 am

The new HP machines aren't for the OP either with their own glowing logos...

Probably a lot better actually but the concept remains the same.

Who really cares if your computer is glowing a dancing hippo on the back, its just a computer.

goback Jul 7, 2009 11:23 pm

Wow!

I didn't expect this to develop the way it has. The question was quite innocent and in no way had any hidden meaning. viz. Mac vs PC. It is just as I explained at the beginning. I'll refrain from answering the comments made.

I found what seems to be an answer:
http://www.skinstyler.com/mac/custom...f-2-p-461.html

the product description says "glow in the dark" which doesn't really seem to solve your problem. your call, though.
