Will Verizon Get The iPhone Soon?

Here is one of the hundreds of articles today speculating on this question:

Verizon, Apple discussing iPhone: USA Today

What do you think?

Tummy Apr 27, 2009 4:26 pm

I think it won't be at least until 2010 according to the articles I've read. I wouldn't call that "soon".

I actually hope it never goes to Verizon, just to stick it to em, since Apple was denied the first time they contacted Verizon.

While I would love to see an iPhone running on VZW, I don't hold any strong expectation of seeing it any time soon. VZW is close to rolling out LTE, but far enough away that any putative iPhone would have need a CDMA radio to function outside the few early rollout markets. If Apple were to wait a year or two, LTE would be far enough along that there would be no need for a separate submodel for VZW and the other current CDMA carriers.

Could these rumors be Apple's way of wringing out greater concessions from AT&T in exchange for extending the contract's exclusivity?

I dont think it will happen fast enough. I wouldnt mind it on VZW.

Hindsight is definitely 20/20 for Verizon on this one. Someone must have gotten some serious hurt for turning Apple down.

I would just hope Apple would not let Verizon cripple the phone the way they normally do.

Ms Powerlifter has a vzw blackberry from her work. She needed a hands free device to make some calls from the car. I was going to let her use my Jawbone headset. I go to set it up, and no bluetooth. Vzw took it off the phone. :td: She had to go buy a plug in headset. I am so glad I dumped Vzw. They would cripple the iphone in a heartbeat so you could not use it except for their apps.

When was this? I don't recall VZW ever removing Bluetooth from a Blackberry. I've seen them disable some of the services, like tethering. I suspect it was a corporate policy applied to the device that disabled the Blackberry.

Anyone hear about the possible iPhone rival from Microsoft, code-named "Pink"? via Macrumors

swanscn Apr 29, 2009 12:38 pm

Powerlifter check on howard forums

My wife and I both have verizon we both connect to our cars via BT, we do not have blackberries. I am aware that certain BT profiles are disabled by Verizon (yes, this is a bad idea) but I have never heard of BT being disabled. I know that BT push is one of the disabled profiles as well as some others.
On Howard forums you could find all the informatin (and more) you would need about Verizon and the particular phone andissue ytou are having.
I am not saying what you said is not true, just that I have never experienced this.

Fair play to them for not wanting to pay the (not insignificant) price - financial and strategic - that Apple demanded to carry the iPhone back then.

Here's the Wall Street Journal today:

Microsoft and Verizon Plot an iPhone Rival

Microsoft Corp. and Verizon Wireless are in talks to launch a touch-screen multimedia cellphone on the carrier's network early next year, in an ambitious effort to challenge Apple Inc.'s iPhone, according to people familiar with the matter.

It only comes in blue. That's so the blue screen of death coordinates with the phone color.

Wired Boy, are you trying to be more cynical than me? :)
