Recommendations for a direct to CD/DVD printer

My aging Epson Stylus 220 needs to be replaced. Does Epson hold a patent on the print direct to CD/DVD technology because I cannot seem to find other manf. offering similar. My requirements are
1) Inexpensive
2) Print to CD/DVD
3) Friendly to non-OEM generic print cartridges
4) MFC (if possible)

Any recommendations are appreciated!
Thanks

Try www.lightscribe.com - not used it myself, but seen some disks and they look good.

You'll need Lightscribe burners and disks in order to use this technology. Not sure OP's burner is capable of Lightscribe technology though.

Other than Epson, I remember seeing Canon printers that are capable of direct print on CD/DVD. I don't have a specific model in mind though.

I'd just get another Epson if I were you. They seem to do a good job.

Another alternative might be the Dymo Disc Painter, but that is a stand alone unit, not an AIO.

Good? Seriously?

Lightscribe discs look like crap, take forever to "scribe", and the discs cost more. Inkjet printable discs barely cost more, and can be printed in about 30 seconds, plus they look fantastic.

Lightscribe is the worst invention ever.

I seem to remember seeing an HP AIO with a Cd/DVD tray recently. Can't recall the model umber, but you could check out their web-site

Could it be this one?

I stand corrected!

My suggestion was on the basis of the cost of a new printer (say $100) against a new CD writer (say $30) and $70 worth of disks. The OP did not mention how many disks he needed to burn.

Edit:

Apparently cheap printable CDs are $0.50 each, while Lightscribes are $0.72 each (based on a quick search). The cartridges for the HP printer mentioned above are $15 and $20 each.

Based on finger in air calculations, I'd suggest the cost of lightscribe is only about 20% more than printable CDs if you include the costs of hardware and supplies.

I have lightscribe drives in two of my PCs, but have never opted to use them, since we stopped issuing our software on CD a few years back. Download only these days!

Just my €0.02c
