Need to extend Ethernet cable.....
Looking for coupler that would have female inputs at both ends. My MIL travels to several time share resorts that have only wired internet. The ethernet they supply is permanently connected at one end and the other end plugs in to her laptop. The cables tend to be short, forcing her to sit at a counter. This is uncomfortable for her. I am trying to locate a coupler so that she can plug an additional ethernet cable in so she can sit at a more comfortable position.
I have tried searching several websites and the web in general and cannot find this. I would think it does exist. Any ideas on where this might be? |
Here you go:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 One end plugs into the existing cable, the other plugs into whatever other cable you have. |
There you go:

Thanks!

you might want to have a look at the other threads about airport express routers and travel routers generally. they offer another way of getting round this problem, and you can move to whereever in the room you want to without a wire as you create your own wireless network.
it may be more expensive than a cable, but it looks like you would often get use for it. HTH! |
Also keep in mind. The maximum length for a standard 100base ethernet is about 100m. Normally not a problem but people often forget about it.

Considering that you can get a wifi router for 25$-40$ on eBay... That's probably the route I would choose. And less likeliness of tripping over the wire. [Which may be important for retired/older folks]

I've tried both; I've ended up with a 15' cable and a coupler in my bag. The travel router is a nice idea in theory, but two or three times having trouble getting it to connect was enough for me to go back to the lower technology, higher reliability solution.
