I agree that this is the proper way to do it, but considering you can pick up an older Linksys WRT54G on eBay for about $30 bucks, it is more cost effective. That being said, I do have a Netgear gigabit switch in my structured media closet that is used for the internal wired LAN that is also connected.

I got a WRT54G on craigslist for about $30. In the process of getting AT&T's UVerse (which I subsequently canceled) they ran cable from the main router area (my office) to another room at the back of the house. I used this opportunity to configure the WRT54G as a second AP (already having a wireless router at the modem point). This gives great coverage throughout the house, but it does combine some wifi and router functions in the same place. Also running Comcast, with 15-18Mbbs down.

This second wifi router is conveniently in the TV room so I was able to run a reasonable length cable to the Samsung BD-P2500 we just got for the streaming Netflix.

Cheers.

Every 802.11x router I have seen sez they will support up to 32 users and I have been on one with 11 other users at the same time and all went well but was slow at times. I strongly recommend the Buffalo routers (with tomato or ww-drt) as excellent stable workhorses
