How to get rid of vpatch (spyware maybe)?
The TV junkie in me watches a lot of shows online so I have a whole bunch of anti-virus/spy programs running in my laptop (Avast, Threatfire...etc). I recently updated my free Online Armor to a newer version. Now it keeps spotting vpatch.exe (located in \windows\temp\_ir_vps_temp_0 or something). I of course tell Online Armor to block the access request. I searched for the file but can't seem to find it in my thinkpad. I opened the temp subdirectory but didn't see the _ir_vps_temp_o piece at all.
I just googled for "vpatch" but didn't find a good advice on how to safely remove it. Most reports indicated it slows down the computer. That does fit the symptom of my laptop, although I had always blamed the small RAM for the slowness problem. This program seems to appear in US since last October. I have no idea what vpatch is and what harm it can do to the system. I just don't want to use the free online scan offered by this or this company without asking you guys first. :D So, my trustworthy IT expert FTers, can you advise me how to get rid of it? What are the proper steps to take? Thanks in advance. BTW, I am using XP Pro. |
