TT Netbook Index [current market prices]

Hi,
I'm wondering if you could help keep a current list of 'sale' prices on current model netbooks - as an updated guide for anyone considering buying in the short term. [see Post #2 below]

Any new models worth sharing as 'Deals'? Clearance 'deals', much better than usual?
Some big clearance sales in Australia, so add any local bargain deals and I'll update the index. :)

Check the S101 Eee PC in Oz - a 25% saving there and way more than half off the original price.

AU: - [AUD$499-$788]
CA: - [CAD$250-$429]
JP: - [Y32k-Y43k]
UK: - [£175-£300]
USA: - [$199-$340][*]Acer - eBay Deal of the DayOct 1: $179

Still required: Asia: (anything interesting?)
  • China: HK, Shanghai?
  • Phillipines: Manila? (netbooks are v. popular there, I hear)
  • SIN, Singapore, KUL, KL, anywhere else you've seen a good deal?

[continued from #1]
...models being superseded could eventually be replaced on the list.

While most FTer readers can get price info from a US website, most or all of us travel - the prices could be useful for anyone traveling, especially if it means a good deals while overseas.

The main reason I'm posting now is because of the story that Asus is seeking to increase its netbook and notebook prices by 20%.

If the other manufacturers follow suit, could we see netbooks, generally, increase in price by 10% for any new models?

Asus's Eee lineup to receive price increase?
Asus isn't happy with the cut they take on each Eee unit sold. The cost of manufacturing the units has gone up, for both the raw hardware and the manufacturing process itself, and this has hurt Asus’ bottom line. These factors and others may have contributed to a recent decision by the company to increase prices across the board on their Eee products, as well as their notebooks. It seems that much of their hardware will see a price hike as high as 20%, starting on March 1st. Not all products will see the same increase, but specifics were not mentioned.

I doubt that 'sale' prices of popular netbooks will go up, but new models might be priced higher and take longer to get to the very-good price levels of today's popular netbooks.

Is a quick index/update of price changes useful, or just something worth bumping when there is a big sale? :)

I bought a Samsung NC10 in December at the duty free in London Heathrow for £283. Dont think it has changed much compared to retail price in the shops (about £310) since then.

Updates, please!

Is anyone able to update us on the current sale prices for the following, which should be available now or very, very soon? (UK, AU, other places in addition to USA if possible)
  • Asus Eee PC 1000HE (should be internationally available about now; cheaper than planned?) AU price seems cheaper than expected
  • Acer Aspire One 10" (out yet?)
  • Any other newly-released netbook? (Dell 10", more MSI Wind models, new HPs)

Quick AU update:
OfficeWorks will beat in-stock advertised prices from competitors (and others will likely do the same or better), so these prices are just a starting point for price-matching:

Just be aware that this is from the Costco website... you will not find anyhting close to that selection in the stores.

Also, on the plus side, Costco gives a 90 day return policy and a full 2 year warranty on their electronics. Buy with the right credit card and you'll get another year on the warranty.

Target stores have an Asus Eee for $250. I'm not sure which model, or specs, other than it's running Linux and listed as "XP ready".
