For the first time....

...for a five-day trip last week, I didn't take a phone cord with me.

In fact, I'm having trouble remembering when the last time I actually used dialup was.

That was when I realized that the phone cord could move from the better-take-it list to the one-less-thing-in-my-bag-that-I-don't-actually-use list.

You?

Phone cord? Last time I used a modem was in 2001.

You guys don't get out of North America and/or Europe all that much, do you :D.

I just tossed mine a couple of weeks ago, when I went to the new, smaller, one laptop backpack. A lot of stuff had to go :-)

I can't remember the last time I used dialup, though.

Haha, I guess I stopped carrying mine when I got a laptop without a modem built in. I figured you never knew when you might have had to use it. I always carry an Ethernet cable with me still though...

Well, I always carry a phone cord. I use it when I want to send a fax to myself, which is my emergency printing technique.

Last time I used a modem was last month right here in New York City when my DSL went out.

Not having modem capability because you haven't used it in a while is like not having automobile collision insurance for the same reason.

Why would I want to do that? With my MagicJack, I can fax from my laptop to anywhere as long as I have an internet connection.

That's what tethering to the cellphone is for.

^ Works like a champ. Got rid of my broadband card. I only use my modem to remotely connect to HVAC DDC systems. Haven't used dial-up for internet in over 7 years.

Only if you wish the spend the money for a cellular device (e.g. BlackBerry) capable of both technically and legally connecting to a computer as a modem ("tethering") as well as the added monthly subscription fee for this service.
