Program for printing Itineraries?
I am planning a trip for a small group (50) and would like to print some kind of ininerary. I considered, excel, and powerpoint even publisher but what im really looking for for is a program that is customizable. I would like to have a database setup with all the flights/transfers/hotelsconfirmation #'s etc etc. I would like for one program to be able to pull from each part of the database. Does something like this exist? or am i going to save time and troubles just doing it manually with something like publisher and my own access/excel databse?
Thanks Weez |
Have you tried www.tripit.com?
I'm not sure how complicated your itineraries are, or how much control you want over the process, but I've used www.tripit.com for about a year now.
You just forward your itineraries (air, auto, hotel) to the site, and it automatically puts them into an itinerary based on the dates on the email confirmations. It will store confirmation numbers, flight numbers, etc. You can put in other plans such as meals, meetings, etc, along with their dates and locations, and then get turn-by-turn directions between all the events in the itinerary (optional, but very useful). Anyway, the site is free to use. mlk |
If you need something that will have each individual's specific confirmation numbers for each reservation then you're going to have to do it yourself. I'd set it up as a mail merge in Word, with the data in Excel. You can create the template and make it look as pretty as you want and then have it populate the confirmation numbers and such from the data file.
For a generic display I'll second the TripIt recommendation. I really enjoy using it and find the itineraries rather pleasant visually. |
Thanks for the replies!. I will probably try playing with both. The current trip is a rathereasy one so the current solutions should work fine. Will get more interetsting when 50 people are all doing different things .

Just want to second www.tripit.com. Works great! Maybe you could set each person up with their own account and they would have access to only their specific info (reservation #, FF #, etc.).

I recently signed up for Tripit based on this thread. How much info do you put on Tripit? I'm concerned about putting street and email addresses, phone numbers and people I will meet on a hosted website. Am I too paranoid?

I put up as much info as the site requires to give me the functionality I want. |
I second the mailmerge process.
It can pull from a database or from excel, which makes it pretty easy. |
I haven't tried Tripit but will look at it...sounds interesting.
I use Outlook. I have set up a separate calendar just for travel stuff and I bang in anything that I can't download to it, then I publish that calendar to the web (availble in Outlook 2007 and maybe prior versions) and can also determien whether the people I share with can read only or edit it. Prior to that I used a calendar template in Word, but that took me forever to use. |
Love TripIt. It makes things very easy, and I can give per-trip access to whomever I want.
