Matching monitors-desktop/laptop

I now have a lenovo T61 with the widescreen ( 1280x860 down to 800x600 resolution).
Desktop has a Samsung widescreen (1680x1050 down to
800x600 resolution).
I use PC anywhere when I am on the road to view and work on the desktop.
I cannot find a setting which allows me to view my desktop in full screen mode when travelling.
I did not have this problem with the T41 and a "standard" monitor.
Any suggestions?

Welcome to FT!

As long as your laptop is set to a higher res than your desktop, you should be OK. I have my desktop at 1280x1024 and my laptop at 1600x1200. PcAnywhere shows 100% of my desktop screen plus a small blue border.

You should be able to set your desktop at 800x600 and your laptop at 1280x860 with good results. 800x600 is pretty low res, but you only need to set it there while you are away.

Welcome to FlyerTalk!!

Does PC Anywhere allow for scaling the screen instead of viewing it at 1:1? That would allow you to view the home screen on the road without forcing you to run at such a low resolution while working at home.

As an alternative, can you use the built-in MS remote desktop for accessing the system from the road? That can be set to just run in "full screen" mode and your home desktop will appear at whatever resolution the remote system is running at.

logmein.com

I use logmein.com for remote access to my home PC (and to my kids' PC and to my step-mother's, etc.). And it scales the picture if I want it to.

There's a free version (which is the one I use) and it works through firewalls.

I've had that happen before with widescreens. I think you need to get the resolution of the home machine down low enough to match something the wide screen can do. Of course, that won't make it very workable.

Because the widescreen doesn't support the height of 1024, I would try setting both to 1024 w x 768 h (or whatever resolution the widescreen offers that's 768 high) and see if that works.

Or go to a scalable solution.

Thank you for the help.
It appears that the best solution so far is to just keep the DT at its' max resolution (1680x1050) and the LT at its' max resolution (1280x800) and use screen scaling.
The only problem being that the laptop screen gets hard to read.
