I need computer tech help!!

To begin with, Mods, if I've put this in the wrong forum, please move. Thanks!

Ok, so here's my problem. When using my laptop at home, I've had a new problem come up that I've never experienced. And suffice it to say, I'm extremely NON-computer savvy!! :(

Whenever I try to sign in on FT at home, it accepts my info, the page changes and says "thank you for signing in aucarol" and when it goes to the next page I'm not signed in. It seems as though it accepts it, but doesn't. No error report generated or anything.

I was told to check my firewall, but I don't even know how to do that.

So my question is this: How do I fix this?? I don't like not being able to post on FT, or be entertained in Omni!! And I suppose my second question should be "why would it do this all of a sudden?"

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Try clicking the little "remember me" box. Sometimes that worked on stuff like this for me.

This sounds like a cookie issue. The first step would be to erase your temporary (or cache) files off the machine. Are you using Internet Explorer or Firefox?

Internet Explorer.

And thanks both of you, for the quick replies, too!

ScottC:

How could he write this thread when he/she is not signed in?

To erase all cookies might not be a good idea for this "extremely NON-computer savvy!!" FlyerTalker.

I'm at work right now. But I'll be leaving in about ten minutes, so if you don't see anymore posts from me, you will know that my "extremely NON computer savvy" self didn't get it to work!!

Sorry, I can't help you. Generally, ScottC is always right regarding such "problems". However, if and when you erase all cookies, you may run into problems signing on on other accounts (because you don't remember the pass word(s))

Since you're using IE, I would surmise that the problem is your security settings are probably set too high. Make sure IE is set to allow third party cookies.

Or just use Firefox. It's faster, smaller, and better. www.getfirefox.com

In the meantime, do clear your cache and cookies. You'll have to sign in to sites that you've told to remember you, but other than that you'll be fine.

YAY!

I am at home and posting!

I'm guessing one of my automatic updates must have changed the settings (possible?) but after reading some of your replies I fiddled with it, and am all set again.

Thanks all! Mods, if you want to delete now, that's fine. Thanks again!
