I'm using whatever format they default download to. In checking, that is .mp3.

But you burn the CD as an Audio-CD, so the mp3-files are converted and you get 74/80 min on a CD.

I see a setting in iTunes to select the disc format when burning a CD. It is set to Audio CD. And there are two other options, MP3 CD and Data CD. For playing CDs in a 10-year old vehicle, Audio CD is my only usable option.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

Just think of the weight that will be lifted off your shoulders when you can have all your podcasts on your iPod/iPhone with the click of a button. This American Life, Fresh Air, and many other radio shows download automatically, and are on my iPhone whenever I want them. As a driver of 2 large SUVs. I can't really complain about the environmental impact of all those CDs, but that is a large amount of plastic waste!

^ Well said. From the discussion here, I'm already snooping around in the stores looking at iPods.

I know someone who takes his antenna off his car when he uses an FM transmitter so there is no chance of interference.

I guess I forgot the limitations of CDs, as I haven't touched one since 2001 or so, when I went 100% digital, although I still have a strange predilection for vinyl and shellac. Neither of the CD players in my cars has ever seen a CD, nor have the radio tuners ever been used.

I can't imagine how I ever carried CDs with me, or worse yet, tapes before that...

Buy a factory refurb either from Apple or E-bay to save some cash. I got my 160gb for less than $350 when it first came out. They're probably far cheaper now.

All 4 refurbs that I have purchased over the years have come with a warranty and have lasted for at least a couple of years.

Even a $69 2gb iPod Shuffle would be a lot easier than burning CDs. If you're just listening to a few podcasts one time, a 160gb iPod might be more than you need. Some tech geek might even have an old 1gb model they'd give you for free! :)

Blasphemy!!! :D One can never have enough data storage!!!

OK, maybe a 40gb might be acceptable...

+1 for the refurb

They work just as well and have the same warranty. I've bought iPods, Macs and an Apple TV from the Apple Refurb store. I don't know if I got lucky, but the Apple TV was brand new, so you might just get lucky!

Here's the website: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...nclm=Certified

It looks like you can get a refurb iPod Classic 80 Gb for $209 right now.
