The CIBC mobile banking app has become the most important app on my phone. The ability to transfer funds on my phone makes unexpected traveling expenses stress free.

MTHIRTY has just shared a widget with you on behalf of CIBC

Signal is a real cool app that plots all the GSM radios within range onto maps, and shows all the radio statistics. Excellent tool for geeks and available only via Cydia of course.

Oh, and BTW there is a new version of Signal that just came out that has a Death Grip game. You can see the relative signal strength indicator change in real time as you grip the phone. It actually does have a demonstratable effect, but still not enough to kill the signal where I am.

Wow, that's pretty neat. I'm definitely going to get this hooked up. Trip to NY coming up.

Samsong, let me know how it worked in NY. If it only put me in the 'regular' que it would have been interesting, but not compelling. Knowing that they are going to give you priority, *and* that I can pay with credit card if needed makes it compelling for me.

All NYC cabs are required to accept CCs on all fares.

I downloaded the Amsterdam and Paris versions of those at the time. As someone who knows those cities very well, I don't think they did a great job. It's probably ok for a casual tourist though.

Is there any app for an un-jailbroken iPhone 4 that would show this sort of information on the home screen - or better, on the lock screen?

(I see that there are some apps in Cydia, but I also see that no one has yet figured out how to jb the iP4).

The jailbreak for iP4 is available at jailbreakme.com
The app you want is in Cydia and is Intelliscreen.
;)

I have to try these out :) Thanks for the info.

HomeAway, the vacation-apartment-rental folks, have an app for the iPhone that shows all their available properties on a map. One odd feature is that when you rotate the phone, apartment photos appear, not just a re-sizing of the map.

Note that HomeAway owns VRBO.com, yet the prices on the two sites may vary for the same properties.

We have had very good success with VRBO properties in the US, South America and Western Europe.

It would help immeasurably if when talking up an app you actually mentioned the apps real name.

Interesting. I went through a couple hundred apps under 'signal' and couldn't find it.
