I saw your post on that thread. I guess you didn't sound like you were sure this IS the app to browse FT. I need an app to browse, post, reply, on FT to fulfill my FT addiction

Which I don't think it is, based on what I saw and the screenshots posted by flying_student. So either Randy has something else up his sleeve, or we should both give up hope that such an app is going to exist in the foreseeable future...

Two new apps I really like
- Flight Aware's "Live Tracking" app. Probably the best stand alone app for flight tracking I have used. Plus it is free, good if you need to track multiple flight.
- Red Alert -- The classic PC game ported to the iPhone. The idea is all there and if you were a fan of the old game my guess is you would really like this. It is a little slow on my 3G though it would probably work really well on the 3GS. The screen is also a little small.

I'm new to the iPhone (just got a 3GS yesterday). A couple of quick questions:
Can I rearrange the order in which my applications appear or am I stuck with the order in which I downloaded them? If so, how do I do this?
Can I get rid of pre-installed applications that I don't want (like the stocks application) to clear clutter? If so, how do I do this?
What's the best free currency conversion application? XE? Currency? I'd like one that shows rates as well as one with a built-in calculator to convert specific rates.
Finally, this may be an AT&T-specific inquiry and may be a little too technical or a little bit too off topic (apologies for any of the above), but with regard to me e-mails, my iPhone apparently shows me the total number of e-mails I have in a red circle in the upper right-hand corner of the Mail icon. Is there any way to adjust that so only the total number of new/unread e-mails are shown inside the red circle?

You can't get rid of pre-installed apps.
I use XE. I haven't verified it yet, but it seems to agree with Bloomberg and a bunch of other sites I see online. You can type in amounts in any currency and it shows the equivalent in other currencies. You can also shake it to reset everything back to "1". I don't know about conversions to prizes, as I didn't see any sweepstakes mode in the menus.
The number in the red circle is the number of unread emails for me. Are you sure you read your emails?
Have fun with your new toy! As a friend told me, the only way to deal with your iPhone addiction is to get two iPhones so you can have one in each hand.

Another way to rearrange the icons is when it's connected to your computer and syncing with iTunes, selected your phone under Devices in the iTunes sidebar. Next select Applications and you'll see them displayed exactly as they are on your iPhone. Drag them around to wherever you want them and then when you're happy with their placement, click on Apply in the lower right corner of the screen. It's sometimes easier to re-arrange your icons with this method, especially when you have multiple screens.
You can also use the Applications screen in iTunes to deselect any app that you no longer want to have on your iPhone. You can always come back and select it again if you change your mind in the future.

Perhaps the issue is that I have read them in Outlook or in my webmail applications, but have not clicked on them again in my iPhone. I guess my iPhone doesn't know if they have been read elsewhere (or read and deliberately marked unread, for example, because they need additional attention) or not.

I used to use "Currency", and I like how they display the flags, but I found it to be inaccurate compared to Bloomberg, and what I was getting. I also noticed that it didn't update very frequently. Looking at XE, I found the rates matched more closely to what I saw on TV/online, hence my switch.

For a Currency Converter, I'd suggest AppBox Pro.
For $.99 you get an App with a good currency converter and 19 other useful Apps. It's like a toolbox full of useful apps.
You soon learn that even with 11 potential screens of Apps, real estate space becomes valuable on the iPhone and you don't want to fill up the App screens with one-trick ponies if you can find good Apps that do double duty or more.

Has anybody tried OffMaps? It lets you download city maps, allowing you to use them offline (i.e. when roaming overseas) in conjunction with GPS. Seems pretty useful. I'm looking into getting that, but don't know if there's anything better that I should be using.

If your email provider does (most do, including Gmail), make sure you do configure your Outlook and iPhone to use IMAP, not POP. This will synchronize your inbox across all of your email and webmail clients.

It would definitely be nice to be able to delete them. Perhaps in the future. They seem to be making steady improvements in the interface.

It's actually hurting Apple's bottom line, as it makes me think twice before impulse-buying an app!
(Though to be fair, I already have a default "waiting period" when looking at an impuse buy, since I never buy apps directly on the phone itself--I have to wait until I get home and go through the Mileage Mall! )
