Can I use a GoPhone as a regular phone?
Ignoring all the legal stuff on the back of a GoPhone package, is there a technical reason why I couldn't take the SIM out of my phone and put it into a cheap GoPhone (AT&T)? (Basically, one of the phones in my family has just about had it but none of us are in the allowable upgrade window...so that means I'd have to buy a really crappy (aesthetically speaking) phone as an inexpensive replacement.)
Thanks. Edited to add: The GoPhones that I've seen also fall into the crappy category except for the older style RAZRs...still pricey but seem nicer than the Samsungs. |
My son is currently using a Go Phone with the sim card from his old phone. Our contract is going to expire in 6 months, so rather than extending the contract I got a Go Phone.

Yes you can. You can also check Amazon for some cheap unlocked phones. They currently have a Samsung and a Nokia for under $50.

Yes, it has worked for me just fine. Even used internet access on the go phone.
The one thing that you might want to do is transfer your existing phone list to the sim card and they then it will be available to you on the new go phone. |
Another question 3 and a half years later...
Can I buy an android go phone and use my old postpaid SIM? The guys at the ATT store say yes, but that data will automatically be added to my plan once the network recognizes the new phone. I don't want to pay for data (just calls and texting). Thanks. |
Since it is the evil DeathStar you are dealing with :D
You can ask they limit the acct to voice/text only... You may need to call a few times to get a CSR that will do it. |
