Lenovo Laptop
Hi,
I went online to configure/order a Lenovo for a friend coming to visit from Europe. It says shipping "More than 4 weeks." What in the world does that mean? I am not super customizing the thing, but over 4 week shipping is just ridicilous. What are other peoples experiences with Lenovo shipping, in terms of ETA? This will better suit me to preorder the computer as appropriate. Thanks! |

Check which component is causing the delay. Last week I priced a T61 which clearly stated choosing the 6-cell battery would cause a delay of 4 weeks or more, but if you chose the 4-cell battery, delivery would be in 1-2 weeks.
That aside, from the Thinkpad forum, its clear that Lenovo underpromises and over delivers in terms of delivery times. |
I've ordered about 4 T61s from Lenovo over the past year and in every case they've quoted 4-6 weeks and I've received them in 7-10 days. Scary when you can get something shipped from China in less time than Newegg shipping from Memphis.
It was really annoying when I ordered one a week before I was to spend a month in Australia, figured 4 weeks was perfect to coincide with my return (I didn't want to waste 3 weeks of upgraded warranty). Damned thing arrived on my office desk the day I left. Of course ymmv. |
When the entire system is listed at over 4 weeks, it usually means that either demand is overwhelming supplies (as when the X300 was released), there is a critical shortage of some vital component (usually LCD panels), or else the model's inventory is being blown out as a replacement is due to be released.
You'll probably have the best luck by calling them and seeing if there's a prebuilt configuration that's close to what you need. |
If you are looking for a standard model, consider just ordering one from CDW.com

Thanks, I will check the Lenovo forums. My brother works for IBM, so he has the employee discount and would like to use that. Will check though.

Notebook Review - Lenovo Forum See the one near the top on "New and improved T-series shipping thread", assuming you're looking for a T-series. I learned from there the dates quoted are the worst possible case, often shipment happens sooner. And the batteries are the component creating the current delays. Create your configuration, turn it into a quote, then call into their sales group. The reps are pretty well informed on what is causing delays and alternative configurations that might help or might be ready to ship out the next day. |
I was quoted 3 weeks, and mine arrived in 9 days. But, it had to go back due to a defective display :(. Replacement delivery-also quoted as 3 weeks.

Had the same experience as Zarf4, but with an R61i (with XP!). Was quoted 3-4 weeks, arrived in less than a week. I wanted the extra large battery, but if I had ordered that, would have had to wait more than 4 - I checked with their customer service on that one...they told me that the XL bat was backordered.
I'm very happy so far. I had an r51 as a work PC a few years ago, and it was a workhorse. So, found I could get the Lenovo version pretty reasonably...slam dunk. Very satisfied. RFTraveler :D |
