You need to use a tool that can archive the file into chunks that can be stored on the media you have. I'm pretty sure that WinRAR and WinZIP32 both have this feature. I wouldn't bother trying to compress the file; just split it. Burn the various slices to disks and then reassemble at the remote end.

Thank you so much for all the replies, I think I will have to look into splitting the image file, but then again, if I end up with 3 images and then 2 dvds, how will I run the program, hmm..

You have to combine them back together on the remote computer. Is it a video or just a single graphic image? For the former you can render it in smaller files and have a disc 1/disc 2 aproach to playback. For a single image it'll most likely have to be reassembled by the recipient.

To answer your question, you need a double layer DVD burner and a double layer DVD disc. This will accommodate more than 8GB.

If you are not willing to split the file, you can burn it on a dual layer DVD that can hold 9 GB. They are quite a bit more expensive than single layer DVD.

In rare instances, if the image is an ISO Mode 2/XA file, the format use the ECC bits to store data resulting in 2352 bytes per sector vs. 2048 bytes per sector of Mode 1 format. The most common use of Mode 2/XA format is VCD. I am not aware of any application of Mode 2/XA format on the DVD media though.

Another option may be to just get an 8Gb flash drive (or memory card) and pop it on that. Saves a lot of hassle...

How can you burn an image (uif) on a flash drive? won't that just transfer the file and not mount the image?
The dual layer dvd is probably my best bet but then again i do not have dual layer dvd burner:mad:

Thanks for clarifying what you meant by "image." :)

You can "extract" the UIF to the 8GB flash drive, or you can split up the contents of it and copy it across multiple smaller devices or you can get a dual-layer burner.

There aren't too many other options that are feasible.

There are a lot of options out there that can mount an image as an emulated DVD drive. I use Slysoft's Virtual Clone Drive (free) and am pretty sure it'll do UIF.
