Computer speaker fuse - 230V/50Hz
Hi everyone!
I'm moving to Switzerland in the near future and as you might expect, I have lots of questions that need answering. A couple of those questions are electricity-related, and I have had some answers on this forum. That is why I come here for this present inquiry. I have recently bought M-Audio Studiophile AV40 desktop speaker. I made sure when choosing those speakers that they could work on both 115-230V and 50/60Hz, which they do. The vendor mentioned to me that I would only need replacing the fuse when in Switzerland. Now, is that true? I just want a confirmation, as I'm clueless when it comes to electricity. Here is a picture of the back of the speaker (I can see where the fuse is, and specs that probably relate to it, just underneath). Thanks in advance for your help! |
Yes, you'll need to replace the 1 AMP fuse with a 500mA one. Don't get me wrong; they will work fine with the current fuse, but you are at risk of fire, death or worse if you don't change it ;)
You should be able to pick up that fuse at any decent electronics store, or you local Radio Shack. Be sure to write down the exact specifications of the required fuse. |
Thanks Scott!
I can't begin to ponder what can be worse than death :D So, I'll take your advice and go buy a couple of 500mA fuses! Cheers! |

There's no mention of that in the speakers' User Guide, so I want to make sure that's all there is to know when buying a new fuse. Thanks again! |
That's really all you need to tell the store. If you want to play it safe, bring the current fuse with you so you get the right size.
