American tv from Europe?
 

I'm currently in Vienna and will be in Europe another three weeks. While I enjoy some of the German tv (ie Deal or No Deal in German) I'm missing my American shows on NBC etc.

We have a Slingbox, but we were rushed to leave our house for the airport and the bf didn't set it up. When I try to watch full episodes on NBC.com it says I can't because of my region.

I tried using a proxy through a San Diego university, but it's a no-go. I also have an AOL account and can't watch shows online when logged in either.

Anyone know a way around this? I can't see spending 2 bucks an episode when they're free on the network's site.

Download a bitTorrent client, perform a search and download your shows:

Note that technically this is illegal in some jurisdictions, and downloading copywritten television shows to your computer may violate the terms of service from your internet provider.

That being said, with the writers strike on in the USA, virtually all 'non-reality' shows are off the air, or in repeats.

Yeah I thought of this, but tend to stay away because of viruses. I know had a new episode last night though so I'm trying to find it online or youtube (no luck there either).

Interesting if anyone is ever in the same situation.

I use my intern's log in for the university proxy since need to get journal articles, etc. That alone didn't work.

The solution was changing my time and zone back to US time and now I can stream via nbc.com

For sports do a search for P2P NFL and you'll get a site listing links to most games as well as all other sports.

The common players to view these feeds are SopCast, TVAnts, TVUPlayer, PPStream

all the info is on the site. They do run feeds of American networks so you can get the normal shows as well and some even have a Tivo style recorder built in. Quality isn't perfect but beats not seeing anything.

I've been torrenting for four years, and never had any problems. For US TV there are one or two "gold standard" torrent sites that always provide, excellent, clean, HD captures of shows.

Admittedly, I am a lonely, lonely man but the advent of torrenting is one of the best things ever to happen to me.

Have you tried an annonomiser (might not work but you could give it a go) something like The-Cloak.com or any of the others. I believe that there is one that allows you to set your region but don't quote me on that.

I've been using tvtorrents' RSS feed of my favorite shows for a couple of years now. It works perfectly. Stuff shows up in MediaCenter the morning after they air in the US (and often before, since they air on different nights in Canada).

The bummer is that I can't get any Food Network shows. :(

The networks offer their programming on corporate servers.
