DVD to PSP

I have a PSP and want to convert DVDs to play on it. Does anyone have some direct experience with any of the converters that can do this? I am loathe to go and buy something on spec and would really appreciate a personal recommendation.

I don't have a PSP, but I use this software to rip DVDs to my laptop. It works great.

I use DVDFab (www.dvdfab.com) and it is fabulous. I spent too much time trying to get free tools to work and spent the $49.95 for DVDFab after using it for the full 30 day free trial (fully functional, just limited to 30 days, and can purchase the activation key from their website after that).

I primarily use it for ripping DVD's to PSP, but have also used it for ripping the main movie to a DVD-5 (it automatically compresses as necessary), and DVD to iPod and generic MP4. I haven't found a disc it won't rip (vs. DVDDecrypter), and they're maintaining it (offshore), so I'm confident it'll keep working for the forseeable future.

It will let you queue up multiple conversions, so if you rip a number of DVD's first (relatively quick, ~4x speed on my drive), you can do the conversion in a batch process overnight (my conversion rate is ~30fps).

If you are converting to the PSP, make sure you have the latest PSP firmware and use the appropriate converter in DVDFab. Default conversion was the least common denominator, and you needed to manually select the converter that works with the recent firmware (allowing full PSP screen resolution).

I use one called MagicDvD ripper. It has a free trial which is done by application launches (5 maybe?). If you are ripping a bunch just leave the app open and you can do as many as you want. When done just uninstall it and then install again and you can keep going.

It does a lot more than just dvd's to psp...not a bad small easy to use tool.

We are on the verge of taking a 6 hour car trip with my 2.5yo son, and I've been combining DVDs (two 30 minute episodes from one series, alternating with two 30 minute episodes from a different series) so that he has something to watch. He's young enough that I'm hoping he doesn't notice it loop, and I only need to deal with one disc.

My one gripe with DVDFab is that it doesn't have the option to strip chapter information from titles when creating a DVD (it automatically strips them when converting to an mp4/h264 format [PSP, iPod/iPhone, etc.]). By retaining the chapter information, I can't just hit the "skip to beginning of next show" button when he gets tired of one and wants to move on to the next.

Since it doesn't nag, the trial isn't crippled, and it cleanly uninstall itself if asked, I think it is worth the try.

Here's a guide to use freeware http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/dvdtopsp.html

I'm partial to http://www.slysoft.com/en/clonedvd-mobile.html slysoft though they make some great products and have some great functions like blueray and hd dvd convertion too.
