Oops, I didn't look at anything but the most recent post before mine. I guess the guy asking for scanner recommendations probably found one by now then!

OP here. It's been probably 7 years since I retired that printer (still in the basement). I currently use a Brother MFC, and it's very serviceable. I may upgrade to something that can handle Google Print functionality.

As noted today, it is our of the ordinary for ten year old threads to be reincarnated. Consequently we will permanently retire it.

However to "markquill", first welcome to Flyertalk, and second - Google is your friend. Lots of interesting results come up with a simple "Best scanning software" search. Here is one result that got my immediate attention:
