Roboform

I can't see spending money on this....

If you're just a Windows guy then I'd say Password Safe is good to use - it will generate good passwords and was originally written by Bruce Schneier, who is The Man. Now it's open source. Can be found at:

http://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net/

Unfortunately it lacks good cross-platform functionality.

However I am currently using KeePass Password Safe, which has a very similar UI to the original but has versions for Windows, Linux, and Mac. They all use the same file format. So if you need to share passwords with people on other platforms then you're all set.

Can be found at:

Two good (and *free*) options for you.

Second vote for PasswordSafe. Anything else is a waste of time/money.

I will put in a plug for truecrypt. It stores files that can contain passwords. Not exactly what you are asking but I do want to point out that everyone should have Truecrypt.

This stuff ought to be open source. Peer reviewed, with bugs promptly reported by The Community and fixed.

And free.

I did try some free options too but found them much harder to use than roboform. Many of them are geared to more tech oriented people out there who like to tweak with these things...I just want to use this program period without even thinking about it...I could not do anything online without Roboform any longer, at only one time $29.95 is by far the best money I ever spent online!!
Try it for free, I think it allows you up to ten passwords and try a few others mentioned here and I would be really surprised that you will not pick Roboform!

I won't gush quite as much as our friend here, but I have Roboform on all my machines.

Opera browser has this functionality. It's free and works flawlessly for me.

It looks a bit prettier than KeePass Password Safe perhaps, but not $30 prettier. Oh, and it won't run on any other platform but Windows.

So, for those of us who use multiple platforms (or work with folks on other platforms) KeePass FTW. :)
