blackberry 8800 question
Just wondering does anyone know what the 2 gold strips are on the left side of the phone?

Good question.

My understanding is that when you put the Blackberry into the included holster they are used to close a circuit which puts the BB immediately into standby mode to save the battery.

Standby mode is activated using small magnets in the holster. You can try running a magnet over the front of the phone and see the results.
The "gold strips" are electrical contacts for the BlackBerry Power Station - a desktop charger. |

I wonder why BlackBerry is the only manufacturer to provide their smartphones with a 'smart holster system'. Such an easy thing to implement... |
