Need Smartphone Recommendations
I've had a succession of Treos for years, but I'm afraid my current 650 will probably be my last. I love the phone/features, but Palm seems to be self-destructing: their newer phones are worse, not better, they still haven't released software compatible with Vista, and their customer support which was always marginal, is now virtually non-existant.
I've always preferred the Palm OS, as it seemed more "personal use" orientated. Windows and Blackberry were always more business orientated. Unfortunately, it seems the Palm OS isn't used anymore by anyone other than Palm, so I guess I'll probably have to go over to Windows, Symbian, or something else. I'm looking for something that is reliable and has decent customer & tech support (Is that possible?), and will run most programs that the Palm OS phone will run. Also, since I'm moving to Australia in a few months, an unlocked GSM phone is a must! The iPhone seems to have great internet and mp3 & video capabilities, but being locked to one carrier and the inability to add additional software are both dealbreakers. And most phones today seem to cater to the "zit crowd's" penchant for cameras, mp3s, SMS, and silly ringtones....and not much else! I've been with Treo so long that I haven't kept up with non-Treo Palm OS smartphones, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! |
Palm OS is actually being discontinued, no future releases. Even Palm is moving off of it.
I have used the following, Blackberry's OS, Windows Mobile, Windows CE and Symbian. My favorite so far is windows mobile as it can be very open and very powerful. Windoes CE is the most open, however it literally crashes. Windows Mobile has never crashed on me. PC integration is obviously top notch. I adore my blackjack, not such a fan of the blackberry my company gave me. |
