carry on size question (need quick answer - auction ends in 30 mins)
I'm about to bid on a bag on ebay for camera and laptop combined. Bag is according to description 1.5 inches too thick. However - it is softish and squeezable. Would check-in agents be fine with bags that can be squeezed in to the size checker thingymagic?
As the title says - auction ends in half an hour. /E |
Depends on your airport and airline. I haven't had AZ, AC, NW and KL size my bags (even if seated in the back) this year. Then again, I haven't flown with big bags through U.K. airports.

Remember we all tend to overpack a bag and if it's too big empty it'll be really too big when you stuff it full. Also you'll have to lift the thing over your head into the compartment fully loaded. Go for something smaller if you're uncertain. Also US carriers are far more forgiving than European or Asian carriers so if you are travelling internationally keep that in mind.

Thanks guys. I los the auction anyway. It was a combined laptop/camera bag which was precisely what I wanted.
Have narrowed it down to two models. One slightly biger than recommended size. The other is within regulations. It was the slightly bigger I lost in the auction. The other model is on my watch list as well now. Let's hope I don't lose that one. Then again - I do want a couple of new lenses..... but that is a discussion for TPF. ;-) |
Actually, it may be good that you lost. The thickness (I presume the depth, or the smallest linear dimension of 3) may be too much to fit into overhead lockers?
|
I have a bag that's way over the recommended dimensions for depth and it fits fine in most overheads unless it's really stuffed.

This thread in the AA forum discusses the attitude of BAA agents (specifically at LHR) to bags that fit into the sizers only when squashed. Apparently the rules say it's OK as long as you can get it in there somehow, but agents don't always see it that way.
