Nokia E61 as Bluetooth modem for Powerbook?

Just got my hands on a Nokia E61. Functions seem to be ok; I'm trying to find the best way to make its features work for me. One minus at the moment is the need to register two phone numbers for each of my contacts - one for local calls and another to call from abroad.

Although it has internet access built in, might anyone have any experience with using it as a bluetooth modem for a Powerbook?

Thanks!

Huh? Me not understand. I've always been registering full intl. numbers (+33 xxxx xxxx xxxx ) and used both domestically and when roaming. Never had any issues with that (with the E61 or any other phone). And never had to register more than one instance of a phone number.

Or, am I entirely missing what it is you're trying to do?

Why, yes indeed: http://www.fibble.org/archives/000541.html

Works a-ok too (depending on your carrier, of course).

For all phone numbers just enter the number as +1 (800) 555-1212. If you put the +1 in front of every number the mobile carrier will automatically check to see if it is local or long-distance and act accordingly.

Cingular told me to do this and it has worked :)

Thanks for the advice guys.

I also thought that registering the full telephone number (with country code) might work domestically, but somehow it doesn't seem to work here in my part of the world (Japan). I'll try again and see if some other ways of putting in the phone number work.

weird!

I used the E61 on Softbank in Tokyo (which I think is Japan still :D ) just two weeks ago, having punched in the numbers with +81....and it worked just dandy.

Notice that if the org. number is 090 XXX...., you want to punch +81 90 XXX...., i.e. loose the heading zero.
