is this nuts?

I am going to Australia tomorrow and I have a couple of tight connections, and I hate schlepping my laptop. So, how stupid is it to consider packing my laptop in its padded sleeve and in the middle of my checked suitcase?
Will it get stolen, broken, or both?
thanks!

It is very stupid. Sorry to be so blunt...

I really wouldn't do it.

Don't do it

I sure would not do it. You could pack it in you rollaboard carryon, but I'd never check a laptop. The way bags are thrown, I don't think it would be too good for your laptop's internals. And aside from your laptop being stolen, what if the airline loses your bag?

If you don't want to carry it on leave it at home. If you're going to put it in your checked luggage you have a good chance of having to buy a new laptop after this trip.

I look at this like leaving a purse in the front seat of your car. Not only are you risking losing the computer, you are also risking damage and pilfering of your luggage and its other contents.
